Conversations with Deborah Oyebamiji

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Oyebamiji.

Deborah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Faith Inclusive Hair started out as a dream talent that as a 5-year-old, I practiced doing hair on my dolls. My father noticed it and said it was a God’s given talent that needed not to be wasted. He made me believe in myself and see what lies in the future by being my first supportive customer. I braided his little Afro hair every night. I became my entire family’s personal hairstylist. I became very confident in doing hair that I also became my own personal hairstylist. My hairstyles became a way of marketing my work to friends and strangers. My friends at school became my first official customers as they loved my work. Referrals started coming from friends who I serviced.

My friends encouraged and pushed me into starting and official hair business. I was very shy and afraid to show off my work to strangers. I started thinking about it and dreaming about it. My mind kept taking me to starting out an official business. I prayed about it and asked God for direction as well as the name. I received my answers and also the name. Soon as I received the name, I took further steps to starting. I was amazed when I received calls from people requesting to book for appointment. I became very much serious about expanding my business and I decided to take to social media where I receive about 90% of my customers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So far it has been a little smooth road but more challenging with lots of growth. Some of the struggles are:

1. Building relationship with recurring customers
2. Making customer satisfaction our priority without involving one-self in it
3. Learning to become either professional or friendly
4. Learning to implement new technology and development to my business
5. Enforcing new technology and policies to both old customers and new customers for the growth of the business
7. Learning to deal with dishonesty customers, etc.
8. Learning to implement 100% perfection in my business

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently a full-time student studying at the Sam Houston State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. I am also a part-time substitute teacher at the Bryan ISD. Officially, I am well-known hairstylist. I specialize in braids, hair extensions, weave, wigs, etc. I am proud to be achieving my dream as a hairstylist. I am always happy to receive notifications of customers’ booking on my phone. It explains the growth in my business. I have a very unique personality which draws a lot of people to me. My talented work is one of the most thing that draws customers to me. I am very hospitable with my customers and everyone around which brings back my customers. Last but not the least, my prices are much affordable which draws first-time customers to me, etc.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
God and my family make me happy. I am where I am today thanks to God. My path in life were chosen by Him. Once I came about the Bible scripture, Jeremiah 29:11 which reads “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I knew I didn’t have to worry much in life. I knew my feet were planted every I go. I am very much my family show me the way to be happy is in God. I am thankful that I belong to a family who loves, support and pushes me to be the very best version of myself everyday. My life coach Pastor Adan also makes me happy. He teaches me to be successful and grow in wisdom which I couldn’t have asked for anything else for.
