Conversations with Emran Ismail

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emran Ismail.

Hi Emran, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in raised in Houston TX for most of my life and my parents are Pakistani immigrants grew up Muslim/Pakistani culture and community. Back then, it was much smaller and much tight knitted and over time, it has grown in numbers and have a huge impact on Houston and Sugarland. After high school, we moved to Sugarland. I finished up getting my associate’s degree at HCC and moved to the University of Houston and after 4 years, I got my bachelor’s degree in SCM (supply chain management). After that, I wasn’t able to get a job, but after 2 years with no job, I got with target seasonal at this time. I was playing video games. I tried my hand at streaming on Mixer and it was okay after a year but I left Mixer (it shortly died after that when Microsoft axed because they couldn’t be as good as Twitch, Facebook gaming and YouTube gaming).

I got a job at Wendy’s and I bought my streaming equipment and gaming set up and I started to take Twitch streaming seriously and since then, I’ve been on the platform for 2 years. I’ve made a lot of new friends and I got an affiliate on twitch and I made some money. I’ll be launching my own merchandise shop with stream labs to help make more money from this job/side hustle.

After being at Wendy’s for over a year (2019-2020), I left because covid-19 cut my hours. I worked for taco bell for 10 months and now at Best Buy (Galleria location) and I’m having a great time working at the inventory section of Best Buy and learning a lot of new things.

I’m also part of furry fandom a great of people who are super supportive, unique and cool!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh man so many struggles like in school, I wasn’t the best but I tried my hardest in all of my classes trying to make friends in high school. It wasn’t easy being a nerd and introvert but I was able to get some close friends who I am still close with and share stuff with.

In college, the real struggle was graduating and trying to take my skills and knowledge and try to get a job and that was a huge struggle. After college, I felt like a huge loser and failure compared to my other college classmates but I didn’t give up and now I am at a point in my life I feel like I can do things that will help my life, take care of my parents and soon improve community because I can use my voice and experiences to help others and represent Houston/Sugarland in a positive light.

Twitch can be a huge grind because after 2020 everyone is doing and some more successful at it than me and I realize I can do better at networking with those who are in Houston and earn sponsorship deals to help improve my name and brand.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My job is twitch streaming on twitch, I am twitching streaming myself playing video games and talking about the game and my life and interacting with the chat and trying to build bonds and networking and growing brand and just make my twitch stream a fun place to be.

I love gaming been gaming my entire life I was very unique compare to other Pakistani/Indiani kids because my younger brother and I were huge into gaming, watching sports and anime/manga. So over time while most Pakistani/Indiani game for a bit playing some it to past the time my younger brother and I was into playing games with each or against or just playing solo games and discussing what going on and what we think, games like Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Tourismo, Resident Evil, Halo, etc and you got tons of anime and manga we love and discuss and as for me, I get really into them buying merchandise or talking to voice actors on Twitter or Discord.

Being a part of furry fandom is something I’ve been part of for 10+ years and I just furry cartoon characters (kemono in japanese) and I love this sub-group and they are just so cool and I even made my own fursona and everything because it was way to talk to other folks around the world. I’ve met many furs in Europe, Asia and Japan and Brazil, etc. It’s amazing how we are all connected and we find out we like similar things like anime and video games so it’s meeting a lot of like-mind folks without leaving your room.

This helps set me apart not just being an ethnic or religious minority but also one who is deeply into anime and video games and Japanese stuff along with being very pro-American and patriotic but also understanding what America needs to improve their own country. Huge fan of ww1 and ww2 history and I am very pro-2nd amendment rights.
