Conversations with Jason Stewart and Frank Raney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Stewart and Frank Raney.

Hi Jason and Frank, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think I’ve always had a calling to mentor and encourage young people, but wasn’t sure about how I wanted to go about doing it. After having some discussions with my best friend, Frank Raney, we decided that we could help people by starting a podcast. We’re both single fathers who are active in our children’s lives but have struggled at times with the co-parenting aspect of fatherhood. We’ve also had to deal with a child support system that, at times, can unfairly punish good fathers. Based on our life experiences and triumphs through struggles, we feel our stories can impact and help someone that may be going through the same thing. We’ve also interviewed guests in spaces that include mental health, financial literacy, social work, relationship coaching, and parenting. We started this journey in March of 2022, and we’re in it for the long haul.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, I would say the process of starting a podcast and working the craft has been pretty smooth. Frank and I have been best friends for over 30 years, so we work very well together. If there has been any challenges, I would say they have been the challenges of looking within self and facing our own demons. Being transparent and telling your story on a podcast for the world to see and hear isn’t easy, but it’s necessary and it forces you to deal with your issues, learn, and grow from them. Our podcast title is Kings Can Move On, and our message to our audience is that you can grow, evolve, overcome, and move on from whatever you’re going through. So with regards to a smooth road, not from a personal development aspect. However, we believe that life is about dealing with adversity, being able to pivot and grow from it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I mentioned, we host a podcast titled Kings Can Move On that is available on YouTube, Apple podcasts, Spotify, Google, and several other podcast platforms. Our core mission is to cover topics that we feel will benefit and help young men and women. We cover various topics from dating and marriage, single parenting, co-parenting, mental, physical, and spiritual health, career and entrepreneurship, financial literacy, etc. The podcast space is flooded with shows covering a vast array of interests and topics these days, but we don’t think there’s many coming from black men’s perspectives with the desire to reach our youth. We feel that we are fulfilling a need, and we’re committed to making a difference.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a very quiet, introverted child growing up. I had friends, but I enjoyed staying to myself and staying out of trouble. My personality developed more as I reached my teen years, and I became more outgoing and got involved in sports. I actually met Frank and one of my other best friends in high school, and our friendship formed there. We all went on to attend Lincoln University together, and we’ve been like brothers ever since. Frank has always been very outgoing, energetic, and outspoken, even in his younger years. He’s never been afraid to say what he feels or thinks to anyone at any time. I think that is what makes the dynamic of our podcast work so well. Our friendship and contrasting personalities make for interesting conversations and content on our podcast.
