Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Porras.
Hi Alicia , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Like any other little girl, I always fantasized about being a bride & having a wedding. I specifically remember looking at Brides of Houston magazine in 2008 and falling in love with the editorial style and all of the details that went into capturing a wedding. As time went on, I expressed a heavy interest in photography when I was 16 and one of my sister’s friends gifted me my first camera! I was not only thrilled but hooked from that day forward.
The next few years were spent researching and looking into the logistics and supplies needed to not only take good photos but to run a business doing so, and let me just say it overwhelmed me. Fear of failure was holding me back from taking the plunge of starting a business.
By the year 2016, I decided to start small and see where it took me, and it’s been nonstop ever since!
I officially took the name Alicia Porras Photography in 2018 and thus my brand was built.
Alicia Porras Photography is all about capturing the joy, love, emotions and celebrations life has to offer so we can look back and remember what an amazing life we as individuals have lived.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This six-year journey hasn’t been an easy or smooth road by any means. Fear of failure has been a big issue that I still, at times, have trouble overcoming. I feel like when you are an artistic creator in a very popular field, you get so focused on what others are doing that you unknowingly put limits on your work. Fixating rules instead of artistic freedom can take away some of the joys of your passion and leave you at a standstill creatively.
One thing I will say is if you think you can’t then you won’t. This applies to any and all entrepreneurs.
Our creative minds have so much power that we don’t even realize that our only true limit is ourselves! From one creator to another, don’t ever let fear of failure stop you from achieving your dreams & goals! You have more power than you realize and there is nothing that can stop you from living your best life!
