Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Trimble.
Hi Andrea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a kid, I would always come home and watch cake boss. One day I said I’m going to make a cake like cake boss and started with my little cousin’s 13th birthday. From there I made all of my family’s cakes and that turned into their friends and coworkers asking me to make cakes and cupcakes for them as well. In 2015, I moved to Orlando and decided I wanted to take baking serious so I sat down and started thinking about names. Andrea’s Sweet Side came from me feeling like baking was an outlet and it allowed for people to see a different side of me. You get the sugar, the colors and I get to have fun doing what I love. I started meeting people in Orlando, marketing my business and started catering corporate events and designing dessert tables. I have had the opportunity to live in different states such as Georgia, California and now Texas where I have been able to market all over and work with some amazing people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like it’s never a smooth road when trying to start a business. I never had anyone to show me the process, I learned the business aspect through google and how to decorate desserts from youtube. My biggest struggle was advertising as I didn’t have a lot of money and the business is so up and down; trying to keep up with trends, the evolution and to always have updated photos was very hard for me. I always believed in myself and I wanted my business to succeed so I did what I could with what I had.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For the last six years, I have been a leasing professional at multiple apartment complexes. Leasing apartments has taught me customer service, marketing and pricing. It has really taught me how run a business and how to be the best competitor within the different markets.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Doing what I love means the most to me. When I first started baking, everyone would tell me to “make it a business”. My response would be “I don’t want to take the fun out of what I love to do”. I didn’t want an upset customer to take the joy from me, I didn’t want my only source of income to become my struggle. Being able to provide a service that not only brings my customers joy but me as well is more important than anything.
