Hi Dayane, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Dayane, and I’m a Doula and Newborn Care Specialist. My passion for nurturing others started at a young age when I took care of my younger relatives in my large family in Brazil. Later on, I became an Early Childhood teacher and had the opportunity to work with students of all ages. In 2018, I decided to explore new opportunities and came to the United States as part of an international cultural exchange program for professional teachers. This is when I discovered my passion for supporting families and newborns. Now, I offer various services to expecting and new parents, including preparation for birth, educating parents on newborn care, and overnight support for the baby so parents can rest and recover after birth. I believe in providing compassionate and individualized care that caters to every family’s unique needs and parenting styles. Whether it’s a first-time parent or a family with multiple children, every family deserves support during this transformative time.
I understand the challenges that come with parenthood. That’s why I’m here to serve as a guide and mentor, helping parents feel empowered and supported throughout their journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I believe that challenges and struggles are all part of the journey. Making that switch from being a teacher to starting my own business as a Doula and Newborn Care Specialist required a lot of studying, networking, and building relationships.
Another challenge was adjusting to cultural differences and communication barriers when I first came to the United States. However, I embraced the opportunity to learn and grow, and it ultimately made me a better professional.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a Doula and Newborn Care Specialist, I provide compassionate and personalized care to families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. My services include emotional support, education to help families make informed decisions, including providing support with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, sleep training, and overall newborn care. What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built with families throughout my career. To me, it’s not just about providing a service but about building a connection with each family. It’s fulfilling to see families grow and thrive under my care and to be a part of such an important journey in their lives. It’s important to remember that I’m not just providing a service; I’m building relationships with families during one of the most important and vulnerable times of their lives.
What sets me apart from others in the field is my background as a teacher. I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in education to my practice, and I believe that providing families with the tools to make informed decisions is just as important as providing physical and emotional support.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
As a new member of the Sugar Land community and having recently moved here, I am happy to have made Texas my new home. There are many things that I like about this city, specifically the warm and welcoming nature of the community, the rich cultural diversity, and the thriving business environment. I’ve found that people here are friendly and supportive, which has made me feel right at home very quickly. While, as a newcomer, there isn’t anything that I would say I “like least” about Sugar Land specifically, like any city, there are always challenges and areas for improvement. I look forward to continuing to explore and get to know the city better, as well as finding ways that I can contribute positively to the community.
