Today we’d like to introduce you to Dora Sanchez.
Hi Dora, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Capturing lasting moments and telling a family story has always been a passion of mine. I started photography in high school as a hobby taking pictures of family events, friends, graduations, football games, and parties; I found myself taking my camera out every opportunity I could. Becoming a professional photographer didn’t happen overnight for me it took years to build creativity and confidence in my ability. With the support of my family and friends, I was able to grow my business by word of mouth. This is a part time business that supplements my full time bilingual teacher position. Since this is not my full time job, I am able to offer my customers affordable pricing while maintaining high-quality services.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the struggles I confronted were my shyness and not feeling confident in my own work. I always felt the competition had a better portfolio than mine, which took me time to build. Buying my gear on a teacher’s salary was also a hurdle so I had to use my profits to invest in my small business. So it was a slow and steady course that I took to get to where I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve done all sorts of photography such as individual, family, urban, real estate and events. What sets me appart from my competitors is the ability to listen to my clients’ needs and use my creativity to produce quality images to exceed their expectations. I offer my clients high-quality images by investing in the latest equipment and software.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have been a Bilingual Teacher for sixteen years. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the financial and retirement industry. In this phase of my career, I was able to hone my communication and listening skills which helped me in photography to better capture client demands.
