Hi Douglas, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Becoming a business owner was never in the cards for me. I was in middle management for 20-plus years and figured I would continue to advance in that career and reach the goals that I set for myself. Well, those were my plans but God had other plans. In early 2020, March to be exact, to make a long story short I resigned from that job. It’s a long story but little did I know at the time things were in motion that I could have never imagined. So unless you were on Mars in early 2020, March to be exact, it was the first time I realized COVID was a thing and the Houston Rodeo got canceled. At that instant it became obvious and I realized trying to find another job would be tough. Although I knew I had to work eventually, going to work for another company was not what I wanted to do. During this time off I was told or was mentioned to me on three different occasions to look at the real estate industry or become a home inspector. After the third time hearing about the industry I knew this was His plan for me. HTX Home Inspections was established in December 2020 and it has been a blessing. As a small business like this, it’s typical if you finish your first year with 75 to 150 inspections to call it a success. HTX Home inspections finished its first year in business with over 400 inspections and over 150 5-star Google reviews. It has been truly an amazing ride and we look forward to what the future holds!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, the road to becoming a home inspector was pretty smooth. It was the road getting to this point that was tough. I was in middle management for a long time and being in that role can take a toll on you. The one thing I always knew was to learn everything there was to learn about the business I was in and nothing that I went thru or experienced was wasted. In my opinion, those experiences, as tough as they were, are what prepared me for what’s next.

I am a licensed professional home inspector and the founder of HTX Home Inspections. I am proud of my family and for overcoming the mindset of working for a company until you’re able to retire. There is nothing wrong with it but when you’re miserable doing so it’s not the best thing to do. HTX Home Inspections specializes in providing residential home inspections for potential homeowners. HTX Home Inspections enjoys being able to work with nonprofits in the area to give back to the community that has made all this possible. The thing that sets us apart from other inspection companies is that we want to “educate and not alarm” our clients about the home inspection process and provide a top-notch level of service.
