Daily Inspiration: Meet Gray Falls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gray Falls.

Hi Gray, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Gray Falls is Seth Mireles (guitar, vocals), Matt Mireles (drums), Jaylon Lexing (bass, vocals), and Chandler Weber (guitar).

Seth Mireles: My brother and I have been playing together since we were about 12 and 14 years old. Matt picked up the drums, while I picked up the guitar and started writing songs. We did various projects together throughout our teen years with friends and whoever wanted to jam with us until eventually forming Gray Falls in late 2019. Matt got connected with Jaylon through a mutual friend of ours and Chandler and I had known of each other while playing in the scene with different bands during our high school years. Since then, we’ve been navigating our way through the Houston scene playing lots of House Parties and College/DIY shows.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We got off to a good start, but then covid happened. Like most, we were bummed that we couldn’t play shows, but the downtime allowed us to really tighten up our live act and figure out what kind of sound we wanted to pursue.

Nowadays, things couldn’t be any better. Since about 2021, the Houston music scene has grown into something we honestly didn’t expect at all. There are so many great bands off all different sounds within our age range that support one another. It’s become a really big, tight-knit community rather than a bunch of random bands who don’t know each other in a giant city.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Gray Falls makes a powerful type of alternative rock music. It’s heavily reliant on catchy, pop-oriented hooks while still maintaining an energetic, punk-inspired playing style. I’d say we’re most known for our loud and entertaining live show. We move around on stage a lot, and we try to incorporate the audience into our show as much as possible. I’d say we’re definitely most proud of that, as well as the versatility of our music.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with us and support by keeping up with our posts, going to shows, and being involved with the music scene. Being involved can take shape in many different ways. We’re constantly working with other bands and vendors to put on extremely fun and mixed-media events. These show that we’re involved in aren’t just for bands and musicians. You can find photographers, local media creators, magazine columnists, tattoo artists, painters and potters all with vendor booths showcasing their gifts.

If you’re ever watching a Gray Falls set, you shouldn’t being staying still. Dancing, moshing and singing along make it all the more fun.
