Daily Inspiration: Meet Jervon Galloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jervon Galloway.

Hi Jervon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First of I was born and raised in New Orleans, La. With me not being able to fully express myself up until my senior year of high school. Once I graduated from high school I started to develop certain urges as if I felt there was something I should’ve been devoted to. Overtime, I began to become less and less moved by my insecurities. Everyday from that point on I began to look and my body naked in the mirror everyday just analyzing and noticing each detail and flaw I felt was “ugly”. This kind of thinking was almost like my fuel. By doing so I was able to be completely comfortable with my body. That way no one or any critique could tell me anything that I didn’t already accept of myself. Building up this internal confidence and pushing it outward externally gave me the courage to start reaching out to major modeling agencies. At the time, I began my scouting search in Atlanta. There I was able to make my face and name known with different people I was able to network and collaborate with. In my efforts on finding modeling work, I ran across an ad that was being promoted on Instagram by a “mother agency” call ProjectSkinnyBoy. This mothering agency allowed me to find my correct poses and actually become a master in my interest. Being a part of this created an environment where met others following similar paths such as I was.

At that very moment, I began to realize that college wasn’t very much my thing although I’d love to go back and finish my degree in Social Work and Psychology. College in my mind made me feel restrained. I always knew I was meant to be in the spotlight offering my gift of being the light shining through all darkness whether that be by speech, entertainment, modeling/fashion, or even being that backbone for others who have went through similar things.

On my journey, I’ve learned that the more you focus on your dreams and goal the more hurdles you’ll encounter. After becoming homeless, and then having to livid in my car for a long period of time it built me into a person whom can tackle anything that is thrown my way. Although, I have many other goals and destinations to reach on my journey I have confidence in knowing my own value and self-worth. Fast forwarding to now, I am preparing to make a major move from New Orleans to Houston, Tx, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what this city has to offer for me and what’s to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can honestly say throughout my journey, things have been very bumpy for me, but things get smoother as I go. My biggest setback would be me becoming completely homeless and then only having my car to sleep in by the grace of God. Having to sleep in my car and be a pillow to post in a homeless shelter set something off in me though. Almost as if it activated my undeveloped survival skills. This journey has taught me that it’s always up to me where my life is being navigated. It’s all up to me how I react to my circumstances.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I work in the hospitality industry mainly as a front desk agent. In my downtime, you can say I’m an aspiring model /performer, whom uses these outlets to express what I’m feeling internally externally. As far as my reputation goes I’m known more for my modeling than my performing.

Performing is most definitely something I work towards every morning. Yes, I perform in my mirror every morning as practice. Hey, gotta practice on my stage presence if performing is what I’d really like to achieve, right? I’m without a doubt more proud of my persistence and resilience. Without these two traits, I would’ve never started working towards anything. Getting published in two major magazines based out in Paris Is also what I’m proud of, till this day I still can’t be like it. However, in my opinion, what makes me different from everyone else is my straight-vision and of persistence. When I work towards conquering something I never give up until my goal is executed. My vision is what sparks my creativity, filling me up with ideas and plans that would completely be game changers.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Yes, of course. My biggest supporter as I first started on this journey was my Mother Agent Nixon Manuel, the creator of the organization that scouted me ProjectSkinnyBoy. Even though I am not currently with the organization anymore, if it wasn’t for him seeing something in me, I probably would have never begun modeling.
