Daily Inspiration: Meet Joy Onyechi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Onyechi.

Hi Joy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Joy Onyechi. I’m a model located here in Houston, Texas. I’m currently studying to become a Nurse. Philippians 4:13 says “ I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me.” I became a self-taught model by watching plenty of YouTube videos on how to walk the runway, how to pose for photoshoots, or what to wear to castings, etc. In 2016, I participated in my first pageant for National American Miss. I did not get the luxury of winning however, but it did me give insight of what my modeling world was to look like if I truly wanted to pursue it. Times after that, I would continuously participate in photo shoots to build up my portfolio hoping that one day an agency will find me. In 2018, I walked for my first fashion show hosted by DAAPRÈ Fashion Empire. With time, I grew and expanded. I can’t wait to see what plans God has in store for me 2021 and every year after that.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Modeling is an easy road for some but unfortunately that was not the case for me. Although I believed I had potential to become a signed and professional model, agencies did not see me fit because I did not meet their height requirement. I got turned down several times because I was not at least over 5’9 but that only encouraged me to try harder to stand out. With the information I know today is because I had to research on it. Without being signed, I had to find information for myself in order to grow and become prepared in the model world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an upcoming model and influencer. I’ve worked with different brands across all my social media channels. I love thinking out the box which allows me to style most of my shoots and know what poses will stand out for any shoot I do. If I had to choose one of the two, it would be modeling. However, as society continues to grow it is very possible to be both you just have to be willing to put in your 100% for everything you do.
