Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaleigh Meyer.
Hi Kaleigh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in East Texas, near Tyler, but moved to College Station in 2013 to pursue a Biomedical Sciences degree at Texas A&M University. My goal at that time was to become a veterinarian, but obviously, my life took a turn in the opposite direction. I met my now-husband, Riley, as a Junior at TAMU. We got married in 2019 and reside in Brenham. Following graduation from college, I began to pursue a teaching certificate. I taught both first and second grades at local school districts until 2021, when my son, Tripp, made his arrival. I now had a new passion – being a mom. I decided to resign from my teaching position to stay at home to raise my baby boy. Because I’m not one to sit still for long, I found “Sissy”, who at the time was named “Gracie” – a 1969 Forester camper. I made the bold decision to purchase this bright blue vintage camper with pink, blue and lime green interior walls, a bright yellow door, and externally adorned in hibiscus flower stickers to transform into a photo booth camper. With the help of my handy dad, we were able to renovate “Sissy” into what you can see today – a fully functioning sleek and stylish photo booth camper. Having Sissy allows me to stay home with my son and continue with my own work on the side.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The renovation process itself was not an easy feat. Much of the interior framing of the camper was rotten from years of water damage. My dad and I had to replace the ceiling and much of the side and rear wall framework. One of the most stressful times was gutting the inside, where it seemed that we would come across multiple problems daily. Luckily, they were all able to be repaired!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sissy the Photo Camper is a vintage photo booth camper. I think what sets Sissy apart from others is the ability to transform her style in various ways. I have multiple decoration options to go with my client’s style.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Luckily, we avoided the many issues caused by COVID-19. Sissy’s renovations began in the Fall of 2021 and we were ready to roll by December 2021!
