Today we’d like to introduce you to Lette Weaver.
Hi Lette, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Atlanta, Ga, I received my first opportunity to create a song at Grove Park Elementary school. We wrote a song, I had my lil rap, we performed, and the kids and teachers LOVED it. The feeling felt good. From there, I continued to play around with rhymes even if the song didn’t make sense lol. Also around this time, maybe a couple of years back, we’d been introduced to computers and had been working on them more so I had a growing interest in computers as well. My parents had bought us one and I was hooked. These were the big back computers we had back in the day, lol. With limited internet access (aol dial-up), I spent most of my time breaking the computer down and rebuilding it. As time went on and internet connections were getting better, I taught myself how to make simple beats using FL studio and how to record and mix my own vocals from home. Oh The magic that was created with some Logitech computer speakers and a computer mic from Walmart! Yahoo messenger was our means of communication.
The only thing we talked about was MUSIC. We recorded, wrote, and transferred music back and forth to each other every day! Music became a part of me. I let people hear my music, received mixed reviews, BUT till this day, I’m still reminded about a few favorites, lol! Fast forward to high school, I’m still doing music, but now I’m more focused on college and an IT career. I figured I wasn’t meant to be in the entertainment field. Everybody knew I did music but it seemed as if others were getting the opportunities and maybe I was meant to do something else. Not understanding the work that they had to put in behind the scenes, I honestly thought it was based off of talent alone. That led to music becoming an on and off thing so I decided to just focus on my studies. I joined the Multimedia Arts Club where we learned how to use different photography, videography, and music software/hardware on iMacs. A lot of troubleshooting took place as iMacs were kind of a new thing to us, and that solidified my choice to further my education in Information technology. I tried the college thing and that didn’t go as planned. I then decided to take on a new venture and I enlisted in the army. 2012 was the day I signed my life away!
I spent the next five years at Ft. Hood, Tx as an Information technology specialist for the army and was able to gain the experience needed to venture off into my next adventures. I do admit that I was planning on doing 20 years in the army but was able to retire early due to medical issues. I honestly didn’t know what to do after I received my dd214. I tried different contracting jobs, tried to go back to school, but I wasn’t motivated. I felt I should’ve be doing more atp. I went through this cycle of depression until one day, I decided to take my spiritual practices more seriously and decided to write again. I poured out my feelings onto this piece of paper and the feeling was unexplainable. It was so chilling that I couldn’t remember why I put the pen down in the first place. As someone who battles mental illness, I found this very therapeutic. As I went deeper in my practices, I found myself battling mental illness a bit more because I was confused. I’m bettering myself, but no one seems to understand. As I continued to grow, I lost out on family and friends. I’m on this amazing spiritual journey with no one to share it with. I needed an outlet and TikTok was perfect. I started to gain a small following on TikTok but I had no plan.
As I got settled into Houston, TX, I would post relatable videos and people started to them. I started to bring out more of my personality in my content and people really enjoyed those. Once I started to show me, my talents, people wanted more. After creating videos for about eight months, I wanted to reach a wider audience. I knew I wanted to help others battling life challenges, and I had to get my music out there but how? And if I can’t get my music out there, what are other ways I can reach people to share what I had to say? Ladies and gentlemen, Tha TreeHouz was born. An entertainment company that produces podcast shows and social media content. We get to explore more of Houston’s underground culture and unpack all the city has to offer. This is how I am able to give back through educating and mentoring while also allowing people to see my talents. At this moment, I am someone who wants to see what I can really do!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d be lying if I said the journey was a smooth one. Most of the obstacles faced were from my own doing, not all but most. I didn’t have the ability to inspire myself without the praise from others. That was me problem. I had yet to realize my talents and that closed me off a bit. I’d be in the studio and have engineers wanting to make industry connections, did a track with Trap-a-Holics, given the option to become a songwriter, but my lack of consistency led me to lose out on a lot of business opportunities and eventually, the hope the people had in me. The lack of knowing has caused me to lose out on a lot of money because there are plenty opportunists who aren’t here to help anyone but themselves. I’ve had scammers pretend to be graphic designers, pr companies, promoters, web designers and so much more.
Even after doing research, I still got scammed, lol. Have you ever been excited to think things are finally taking off, only to realize you’ve set yourself back even further than when you started? The saying, “If you want something done right, do it yourself,” stayed seated in the front of my mind. That led me to doing a lot of things myself which brought on a lack of drive and motivation. I spent more hours on YouTube trying to learn how to do something than actually completing what needed to be done. Patience was my biggest obstacle here. Once I finally got myself together, I understood that there was a cycle in place that needed to be broken. I break that cycle through hard work, patience, and consistency.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an overall entrepreneur. information technology specialist, music artist, spiritual mentor, podcaster, and I recently picked up photography/videography. I specialize in content creation and I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m mostly known for. But don’t sleep on the music, it’s starting to reach a wider audience and that’s what I will be known for.
Honestly, I’m proud of my resiliency. No matter how many punches life throws at me I’m going to always bounce back.
My ability to manage, recover, and grow from challenges by adapting to difficult life experiences is what sets me apart from others
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Atomic habits by James Clear is hands down one of the best books I’ve read. This was the book that taught me the importance of small changes and discipline in order to transform my life and achieve goals. This book has changed my life and is one of the few self-help books/guides that I actually find very valuable and useful for everyone.
Raising Vibes @Tha TreeHouz podcast is a motivational, inspirational, and self-help series that explores, pushes and elevates the culture forward through intentional conversations. Helping you reconnect to who you truly are by teaching you how to become number one of self rather than someone else’s game! I highly recommend you check that podcast out if you haven’t already!
