Today we’d like to introduce you to Maryssa Morrison.
Hi Maryssa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Creating my company, (Studio XIV) that allows me to utilize my talent to help others was an easy decision, but it was not until the pandemic that I fully launched my business.
A lot of people in 2020 lost loved ones, jobs, and mentally just had a hard time. I found myself getting anxious about losing my own job and being financially unstable. Photography and Graphic Design became a way for me to unwind and take a break from some of things that were stressing me out. As 2020 continued to be uncertain I wanted to create a business where I could combine my passion, utilize me degree, and create generational wealth for my family. As of today, my company offers Photography, Graphic Design, and Architectural Design Services.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. Working full-time and having your own business is not easy. It can be hard to find clients. market you business, and continue to educate yourself. I have learned that you have to invest in yourself and be able to take criticism from others in order to build a strong business. Everyone has their own journey and will succeed at their own rate. You can not compare your path to someone else’s.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently specialize in family and senior portraits. I get a lot of inquires about Senior portraits and my most popular package is the “Senior Special”. The Senior Special includes custom Tri-fold announcements that allow me bring an artistic element to the photography. It also allows me to celebrate milestones with my clients and get to know them better.
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is my background in architecture. In architecture we are taught to think with purpose, often have to embrace complexity and challenges. As a creative, I am not afraid of a challenge and embrace different ways to approach the subject.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I always had a passion for the creative arts. As a child, I loved to draw and take pictures. During the summer I would attend art and photography day camps. For years I would help family and friends by creating flyers and taking pictures at events. In high school, it took art as an elective, and was a part of the yearbook.
