Daily Inspiration: Meet Michael James Cisarik

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael James Cisarik.

Hi Michael James, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In short, what started as a mundane “chore” to furnish my new apartment morphed into what is now what I refer to as “Michael James Fine Art”.

After looking for over six months for art that I genuinely liked, was sized appropriately, and complemented my décor, I decided to pick up a paintbrush for the first time in my life. After turning my Houston apartment kitchen into a makeshift “studio” (emphasis on makeshift), it quickly became a creative outlet. After I physically ran out of wall space, I turned to friends, family and social media. Since June 2020, there are now over one hundred and fifty – yes 150! – commissions furnishing homes and businesses from Los Angeles to Dallas to DC.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like the art industry is hard to enter with no experience and make a name for oneself – it is definitely still a process but I am so grateful to friends and clients that have supported this journey of mine to make this turn into what it has today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
People tend to recognize my work from color tones and “paint drips”. I describe my style as very abstract and minimalistic, usually focusing upon low-saturated color palettes and subdued or muted natural tones. My pieces usually hold a single focal point, usually, a neutral color block or similar, large component, complemented by secondary palettes and accents that draw the viewer into the piece. By altering the natural saturation of everyday colors, I feel that I am able to create pieces that complement a wide range of colors while fostering an atmosphere of quietness and stillness.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I actually hadn’t picked up a paintbrush in this form since last year!
