Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Medina.
Hi Nadia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Nadia, a 30-year-old Venezuelan woman who from a very young age has been passionate about art, serving others and being part of any celebration. For this reason, I decided to study and specialize in Advertising and public relations, create a beautiful family and decided to focus on sales of high-end products. March 2020 would be the year that would change my life forever. My family and I welcome the second child and at the same time a pandemic takes over the world. The year 2020 changed my life forever and led me to quit a job I loved and valued as an interior designer for a well-known home decor store. Months go by and as a good daughter of God, I decided to give all my plans to Him. In prayer, I asked many times what would become of my professional life? What would my new adventure be? Then I begin to see the Baker profession as a kind way of expressing art, interacting with an exceptional type of client and the beauty of serving others. The concept of Butterly Baked as a brand is: “creating edible art for your loved ones”. Butterly is a mix between butterfly and butter. Why butterfly? If you know the process of how a butterfly reaches its final state, that’s why. Nadia as a person got a supernatural transformation and became an edible art baker. Baked: because that’s what I do! I bake! And with all the love in the world. My goal is that Butterly baked always shows love for everyone as the only God… Jesus, delicious desserts, majestic and unique designs and above all good service to everyone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If someone says that creating a business from scratch has no obstacles, I think they would be lying. The first obstacle is to start your own business from 0 during a global pandemic, but as I said before… God was, is and will be the one who guides this project until its last day. Butterly Baked has taken off since day one, I love each one of my customers, they support me and push me to be better every day. One of the most visible obstacles has been the costs increase of each one of the materials, gas and everything in general has greatly increased in price… which means that I have to raise the bakery costs as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love creating edible art! I create edible items that are unique in both flavor and appearance, giving a stylish/modern luxurious look according to current trends.
My main focus are Buttercream Celebration Cakes: weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, quinceañera, graduations and more. It excites me that someone sees and tastes something made by me and says that it was made by Nadia from Butterly Baked (all glory to Jesus). It means all my love and dedication is valued through my designs and flavors, that means a lot to me!
My cakes are known for being soft, fluffy and having a right touch of sweetness.
Apart from cakes, I design and create cakesicles, cake pops, cupcakes and cookies.
Butterly Baked cakes are always ordered to be the center of attention of any celebration, the show of the event! Cakesicles, cupcakes and cake pops are very loved by my clients too, normally every client I have orders them either to decorate a candy table or simply to offer them as a sweet treat in their party. My delicious cookies are always the best way to bring people together, I always get cookie orders mid-week for weekend reunions (family or friends).
The special thing about Butterly Baked cakes and desserts is they are designed for the needs of the client, so each of my creations are first hand drawn, then brought to life! I can be inspired by a cake artist but my creations are not a copy, I respect all bakers’ artwork.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
My profession is not similar to what I studied. I’m specialized in social communication: advertising and public relations… it may help with selling a cake but it has nothing to do with baking.
I’m a self taught baker! I started without any course or studies, a few months ago I decided to start doing it to upgrade my knowledge and for sure apply it to improve my own recipes and decor techniques.
