Daily Inspiration: Meet Oluwatosin Tubo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwatosin Tubo.

Hi Oluwatosin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started out when I was younger in Maryland, I didn’t have a lot of friends so to entertain myself I used to reenact scenes from my favorite show or movie at the time, and just really tap into the characters. I didn’t fully understand what I was building towards, all at the same time I felt like my passion was shifting slightly within the business. In high school, I was involved in a talent show, and it really challenged what I was comfortable with doing on stage. I had speaking roles, choreography, I was just all around displaying my Nigerian tradition. Despite all of the anxiety, I persevered and came in 1st place. I got a lot of positive feedback, especially due to the African attire that I was wearing, and decided that I wanted to tap into modeling of all sorts. I moved to Texas and started taking trips, brainstorming ways on how I wanted my photoshoots to be and clearing them through my manager. I started walking in shows, wearing many different designs and designers such as Tokyo James and Zoe Dupree. Today, I have been in many different major artists’ videos, photoshoots, and events; & even started different lucrative businesses that are still doing well to this day (Rental Car services, as well as Airbnb and Turo properties). Things picked up when I moved to where I was getting a lot of my bookings; Atlanta. I am currently filming a Tyler Perry production that is aimed to hit theaters in November, and my episode of Catfish is now in circulation on MTV. I am really thankful for the blessing that has came about in the past years, and I look forward to what’s to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey as a creator has been challenging especially with the fact that I was a foreigner child trying to find a better life in a new world, America. I like to be optimistic most of the time, and like to think that the glass is half full. Despite, us as humans tend to be the biggest critics, especially when it comes to self at times. I was born with a speaking impediment in which limited me when I was growing up as a child. Placed in speaking classes and taking my father’s advice ” Always think before you talk son, just breathe and think your words will flow right through “. As I got older, it was a challenge dealing with this I didn’t make friends, or talk to others because I was scared of my speech disorder. I faced my fear at my very 1st talent show which I gave a speech in front of hundreds of crowds and took home the crown. Since then, I won’t ever be scared to speak or let my voice be heard, facing my biggest fear made me fearless of any obstacle! In the industry I’ve learned loyalty is everything, everyone I meet or work with building a solid friendship or partnership always helped me out for the future my face is always remembered in a positive way and I’m always recalled for bigger work. Birth in Lagos, Nigeria I was granted a scholarship to school in US in 2012. Moved to NY with family until 2015. We crossed over to Maryland to begin a new journey in life. I want the world to know my story of how I came up from the bottom and worked my way to the top, nothing was given to me I worked nights for, took losses for, I didn’t win until I failed multiples and figured my way to success. I grew up with so much self-doubt but maturing up, I realized I was only limiting myself, the only competition along was myself. Tragically in my career, I have been. Through some traumatic experience where I was on a vacation ship in London, Uk stabbed 6 times and had to fight for my life by 3 armed robbers. I am still perfecting my craft and today I am proud to say that smooth road, or bumpy, I’m thankful for the way that has been paved for me and even the avenues that I am paving for myself, family and the future generation.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I refer to myself as a jack of all trades, all because I am an actor, content creator, model, photographer and last but not least full time entrepreneur. Although growing up very self-conscious and lacking self-confidence I never imagined seeing myself acting on walking in front of icons like Shaun Ross, Tokyo James and working on movie sets with actors Jamie Foxx, Angela Basset, and Megan Good. I am most honored and thankful for landing a featured role in Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever that premiered this November 11th, raised over $300,000 for my brand online as a young content creator, my own MTV catfish episode aired on February 14th, 2022 which was an amazing experience for me to be brought onto national television this helped my social media brand and I was able to bring on the girl who was catfished by a fake version of me, I flew her out for a surprise dinner and putting a smile on her face after such a hard time made me feel so much better as a person. My art is more distinct than others because I have the ability to do anything I put my mind to whether it to improvise an act, freestyle a song, walk the runway of a high fashion designer brand, I can complete any craft I put time into my drive in unmatched with how goal driven I am. I strive to represent my culture in the best fashion as well as my confidence; that I hope in return fuels others’ confidence in themselves.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson learned along my journey is to not care about what people think about me, taking risks will always seem unbelievable till you realize anything can be done, and the more people you help in your journey the more countless blessings God will place onto you. As a creator you will be liked, disliked, some people may disagree with you or what you believe in but if you let it affect your mind will always be in discourage. “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far it is possible to go.” — T.S. Eliot. As a child, I feared risks and abnormal things, until I was put on the spot to face my fear.. or make a risky decision for a good outcome. “Ask God to use you. Ask Him to show you how you can be a blessing everywhere you go. Keep honoring Him so that others can see Him through you.” I believe I am put onto this world as a working child of God sent to help people in need, my heart is so big that I help out others when I’m in the one that needs help at times.
