Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherilyn Guerrero.
Hi Sherilyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So the idea came to me when I was spending countless hours at home, stuck, from an extensive knee surgery back in 2021. I genuinely wanted to dabble into something that made people feel good & as a dancer, I consider my dancing a form of expression and learned that the way people dress also use it as a form of expression. The name “Femme Ingenuity” comes from the simple point of a female having something solely created from the originality of MY brain, designs that are me, clothing that in some way will represent the creativity and originality of a first and foremost HISPANIC, female and secondly doing this completely and 100% by myself. I will always carry myself as an LLC, but I strictly operate as a sole proprietor. To me, that is powerful and only stands behind and supports my creativity being solely mine. By the end of 2021, I was registered and ready to do it right. I do give credit to the people I surrounded myself with who checked up on my progress and added to the inspiration, motivation and discipline of what it took. To get me here.
I barely launched my business in May and it’s a patient process to say the very least. It’s exciting & humbling. People think being the daughter of a World Famous Pro Wrestler, Eddie Guerrero & next in the business who is my mother, Vickie Guerrero, who is married as Vickie Benson. The work ethic I have is all because of them and how I saw them work so hard to provide and be better individuals for my sister & I as we were growing up. My family dynamic isn’t perfect & with how God rolled out my life I, unfortunately, don’t have the usual support as people think. If you want to know why I’m doing this, Is because I don’t want to only be known as just the wrestler’s daughter, as we all know, tomorrow is never guaranteed, if I can do anything is reach people who are in my position and have people see I truly wanted to leave my own mark on this world, humbly with what my dad left as a legacy to me and my siblings. When you look at my clothes or see my stuff just know it’s genuinely from the heart with the intention and want to make, anyone feels good while in it!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. If you’ve ever been off-roading in from Cali to El Paso to Miami Beach, that’s exactly how it’s been. So many ups and downs, thinking it was as easy as YouTubers make it. It’s slow if you chose it that way or it can be consistent with success but it’s a slow incline. I’m learning to be patient and confident that I’m on this path for a reason.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work at an eye Institute here in Houston, but I am transitioning to an amazing opportunity at a photography studio. I am known for dance mostly, everyone knows I love to dance. I have been dancing for as long as I can remember and have made a great recovery from an extensive, rare knee surgery where my femur was broken and re-aligned & had multiple ligament repairs so my knee cap would not dislocate. I’m proud of myself cause no one was around during my recovery to help me I did it all by myself, I truly am my own walking testimony. I love photography and have my own page for it as well. @sherrys_lense. What sets me apart from others is the way I was raised compared to how I’m working to survive and support myself- while also going through life, experiencing, losing, and winning. I have nothing to lose right now other than what I have made for myself and that is alone priceless and the reason other than my Dad while I will never stop.
How do you think about luck?
I think the role of luck has strictly been in the form of blessings. I get lucky with finding my savings got increased or I’m lucky cause I got to make the first 3 green lights in the morning when I leave for work. Those make the things that benefit my business like being blessed with a bonus that helped me buy samples or getting blessed with someone ordering- I truly think those are blessings, my clothing is never something someone rolls across and I get lucky they buy, I think they truly see potential and plan to invest in more further down the road. But when I get lucky with divine timing then it makes the actual accomplishments such huge wins.
