Daily Inspiration: Meet Tangelia Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tangelia Robinson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Coco select is a health & beauty brand established two years ago by my husband & I. Back in 2019 I Tangelia Robinson had to endure 3 back-to-back skin surgeries that forced me to change the topical products that were being placed on my body. From deodorant, to perfume, even my lotion, anything you can imagine that was once normal to put on was now affecting my health. My journey started when I began doing lots of research & learning of other alternatives, I gained an interest in making my own soap, and from there came the other products. As a husband & wife team we took on that good Ol entrepreneur spirit. Anything from farmer markets to carnivals & even charity events, we jumped in feet first willing to go further.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although things happened around us during the beginning of the pandemic, we used that quarantine time to grow & master our craft. Even as I’m typing this, I can’t help but remember the journey along the way. My husband, for example, being laid off with temporary pay during a pandemic of course didn’t make things any easier. But deep down we knew something special was behind this brand. And the people we started making personal connections with began to confirm those intuitional feelings. For us that is what gave us positive motivation that this brand was more than just a parade for profit, this entity also meant a lot to others. The love and time that goes into making our products has been felt & openly expressed from our customers.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Prior to starting this business, I fulfilled 7 years of full-time work as the regional & property manager at BigTex storage facility here in Houston Texas. I’ve never done anything in my past that can make sense of what I’m doing today. Sure, as a wife I can bake or cook a great meal, but those abilities are far from what it is like making homemade health & beauty products. I’ve never attended college for this. In school, science was definitely not one of my strong points on my report cards. So in reality, I’m literally still discovering my gifts as I go along. I’m convinced that anyone who has an open mind to learn challenging new things, certain gifts will present themselves to us.

Lucky for us that opportunity not only presented itself to us, along with that came an opportunity not many get, which was too convert a shipping container into a soap & candle store, attached above it is a loft type setting with an open view of the building. I will attach visuals with this reply.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Great question by the way. What’s funny is this conversation was just brought up the other day between my husband & I. We have a 5-year goal to at least expand with one more property space for both retail and warehouse. Within the next 6 months ahead we have a projected goal to reach in sales. Our personal belief is none of these things happen without some personal growth & other disciplines too fine tune along the way. If we can stay focused & consistent everything else should flow as well.
