Daily Inspiration: Meet Taquesha Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taquesha Jones.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I first started in 2021, I initially only wanted to do desserts. My name was even different, it was Kwees Koolerz and Treatz. A friend of mine actually persuaded me to start selling my food one day after eating some of my fried chicken. At the time I was with someone that cooked for a living and I wanted to do something like a joint venture, but they didn’t want to. Some things happened in that situation that provoked me to sell plates. I started off with wings and cheese fries. Then one day I added nacho eggrolls and people loved them. It’s actually still my most requested item. I eventually changed my name to Kwees Kitchen. As time went on, I noticed people going viral for making these fancy dishes or even just coming up with new ideas. It made me want to dive more into the culinary world and learn new dishes. So in January of this year, I started challenging myself to make things I had never made. It has been amazing so far.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been smooth. Mostly because I do everything alone. I’m a single mother of two boys. I also work a full-time job, so the work-life balance thing has been an issue for me. Trying to find time to make content, promote my business, work, be there for my kids, and still try to sell food whenever I’m free has been rough.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a personal chef. I also cater and do private dinners. I’m definitely known for nacho eggrolls. It’s one of those things you do not see often. Nacho filled eggrolls topped with that same nacho filling. It’s always a hit. I’m most proud of the fact I have come so far from where I started. I can visibly see my growth. The thing that sets me apart is that I try to do things no one else is doing. Mostly out of respect, but I like to be different. Of course, I have dishes that can be purchased anywhere, but my food has a flavor that can only come from me. I’m very passionate about what I do, so when I cook, it’s most definitely coming from the heart.

What were you like growing up?
I was quiet growing up. I had friends, but I wasn’t as social as my siblings. I am the middle of three kids, but I didnt have my father coming up. I was the only child that didn’t, so it was always different for me. I wasn’t as outgoing or outspoken as I am today.
