Today we’d like to introduce you to Traci Duff.
Traci, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, my father was in the entertainment business, so I was exposed to lights, cameras & costumes, and I became interested in hair and fashion. Eventually narrowed my focus on hair. I got my first job in the suburbs as a receptionist in a hair salon and knew instantly that was the career I wanted to pursue – but in the big city of Houston. I started doing hair and I still have some of my very first clients after 27 years. In 2021, I co-founded Duff’s Barbershop with my bother Johnny Duff in Seabrook, TX and continue to expand the business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I opened my own salon, Traci Scott in 2003 with a business partner. We built a very strong business and had a lot of fun doing it. Of course, there were many challenges along the way…it’s hard to manage people, your personal life and a business at the same time. I was set to get married which suddenly ended one week before the wedding, causing me to reevaluate everything in my life. I set out on a path of growth which led to me barber school at Modern Barber College in Houston and furthered my education in London, Paris and Rome, learning the craft of barbering.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am client focused and like to serve where I see a need. As I mentioned before, I have the same clients I started with 27 years ago, they are family to me. I am constantly expanding my business in many ways, aside from my salon in the Heights and the barber shop in Searbrook, TX, I also run a business geared toward salon industry professionals, which helps stylists with their salon laundry so they can focus on their clients, as well. I also have a small retail shop next to barbershop that is a constant evolution.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’ve been working on a romance novel for 10 plus years. I don’t make myself a priority, but one day, when I slow down, I’m going to publish this book!!
