Exploring Life & Business with Anisia Boone of Boss Bakery & More

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisia Boone.

Hi Anisia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was about 7 years old when I baked and decorated my first cake, by myself, and I have been baking and decorating ever since. I was lucky to have parents that invested in my interest and enrolled me into cake decorating class when I was about 13. As I got older I was able to continue this hobby in school with home economics or culinary classes. Eventually, I was able to get a job at 18 with Walmart Bakery where I was able to develop my decorating skills so much, especially timing to decorate a cake. After that, I worked at a couple more supermarket bakeries during my time in college such as Randall’s and H-E-B and eventually I started to do decorating on my own. My baking/decorating of cakes started to become more in demand from family and friends and eventually, I had a small business expanding outside my family and friends.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is definitely not a smooth journey. I felt that I was constantly debating whether this should be just a hobby or a business. There were moments when times are so good and I have multiple orders in 1 weekend, and then it would be a month where I had 1-2 orders. I struggled for a while because trying to maintain a business, and a household was a lot. I also lost my job during the pandemic, and I felt that it set me back so much to where I’m just now starting to recover from that. However, God pushed me through. Whenever I would doubt Boss Bakery, I would be blessed with multiple orders, and that’s how I knew I should stay the course, and this was just one of those obstacles.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Boss Bakery & More?
I am a baker and cake/dessert decorator. I specialize in cake and cookie decorating and also known for making everything from scratch. I have constantly been working to perfect my recipes for cake, cookies, cheesecakes, etc, to give my customers the best quality homemade desserts possible. During being a cake/cookie decorator, I have learned that I am a perfectionist. I believe that my customers can value the quality of my work along with my customer service because I treat every order as if I was making it for myself/family.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have had MANY physical supporters that have believed in Boss Bakery even in those moments when I probably didn’t and I am forever grateful. I could name a list that is never-ending of individuals from spouse, parents, family, friends, and the list goes on. I realized a while ago that not everyone has that support when trying to start a business /follow your dreams, so that is why I am so appreciative. However, the “person” who plays the biggest role in my success is God, because I would have never made it to this point without that support.
