Exploring Life & Business with David Winters of KingsDetails

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Winters.

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At the age of 14, I always wanted a job but wasn’t old enough to work. Moreover, the Coronavirus made the whole world go on quarantine. I had nothing to do at all. One day I was jotting down thoughts in my head before I went to bed and had an idea to start my own business. I started a mobile car detailing service and named it KingsDetails. I thought that would be a great idea because all the car wash were shut down. I believed that if the clients could stay in the house while I bring the car wash to the doorstep, that would give the client a good feeling without spreading COVID-19.

Business started slow I started washing my family’s car just to practice. I kept maintaining their cars until I had clients. I did not really know a lot about detailing, but my stepdad Bryan taught me the basis on how to wash cars correctly because he use to wash cars for a detail shop when he was growing up. He also advised me to watch different YouTube videos of how to detail cars. I became really observant of the various techniques and practiced my new skills to perfection.

A couple months later, business started picking up, and I no longer had to wash my family’s car because now my neighbors and their friends started asking me to service their vehicles.

Two years went by, and KingsDetails, exploded with new clients; I was traveling all around Houston washing cars I’ve never washed before like AMG Mercedes, Infinities, Escalade’s and many more luxury vehicles. The business picked up so much that I had to make a website for clients to book.

At the age of 17, with my website up and running for clients to book online. I debuted my 17 different services offered. Because of the uptake in business, I was able to hire my first employee at the age of 17 too.

In an effort to gain more skills, I just became a certified as a mobile detailer and started teaching other young people how to detail vehicles.

All of this has been possible because of God. He guided my steps to start this business at such a young age and gave me the grace to continue to grow KingsDetails. What I learned from my business is to make God your foundation because he will establish it.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. There were days where I had no clients and cars to clean at all. Moreover, I had to deal with people doubting my skills due to my age.

Because I was initially self-taught before becoming a certified detailer, I had to learn what products work best on certain surfaces and materials. Thanks, mom, for letting me test this method on your brand-new Cadillac… lol.

Lastly, started using a car my parents gave me in the beginning to go haul my product and equipment back and forth. That was a huge struggle until they decided to get me a truck…

As you know, we’re big fans of KingsDetails. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a certified mobile detailer who started my business at the age of 14. I specialize in making sure vehicles are thoroughly clean and look as if they just came off a car showroom floor.

KingsDetails detail offer headlight restoration, engine bay cleaning, ceramic coatings, sealants, paint corrections, and more! Our top seller is our shampoo and condition of interior carpets and seats. KingsDetails has over 17 different services for you to choose from, but more importantly, we come to you whether you are at home, work, at the hair salon, you name it. We are a mobile detailer.

I believe what sets me apart from other car detailers is that I am deeply rooted in the God. The name of my business KingsDetail came from Him and is based on my faith in God. Colossians 3:23 is the scripture my business is founded on which means when I work, I work for God and unto God, no one else. This is the reason why my detailing services are above par because as I’m cleaning a car, I believe I’m working unto the Lord. This is what makes me proud about my brand and services.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see KingsDetails having its own location while still offering mobile services. I also want to continue to train and develop young people in the business so if they desire to work at a young age, they will have something to do besides stay home. I also see myself motivated young people to dream big. I believe some young people don’t achieve their dreams because they think little. We as young people must think big so we can receive big.
