Exploring Life & Business with Stefanie Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie Martinez.

Hi Stefanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Hi there! Yes, my name is Stefanie Martinez, wife and CPA in the Clear Lake Area. I’ve been in this field since 2009, and quickly found how much I love working with small business owners, to help them get organized, and set up right! As a business owner myself, I have a passion for encouraging other business owners and sharing lessons learned to help them achieve their financial goals. We also try to help them change their mindset to think like a business owner, and of course save them taxes!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? Ha! Is there such a thing in owning a business? I would say my biggest challenge is balancing entrepreneurship and being a wife. I love what I do, so being a “workaholic” comes quite naturally. I’m easily consumed by projects, so it’s an ongoing challenge to set boundaries with clients and work, so I can spend focused time with my family! It can also be difficult to switch out of “work mode”, and into “wife mode”, especially now since we work from home more often. I can’t say that I miss the traffic on I-45, but it did give me time to wind down before getting home! Thank God, I have a husband who is super supportive and has made it through many tax seasons with me!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Sure! We do individual and business tax preparation, accounting and QuickBooks, consulting, and this year helped with PPP Loans and other COVID relief questions! I think what sets us apart from others, is that we love being a part of our client’s team. We love hearing people’s dreams and goals, and helping them achieve those goals from a tax and financial standpoint. We try to see the big picture, from their business and personal goals, and then advise from there. I feel like we all just “google” everything and let me tell you, that googling how to set up and run a business can be really confusing! And it’s a lot more expensive to fix issues down the line, than to get the right info from the start! We try to take that stress from our clients so they can focus on doing what they love! And the best part is celebrating with them as they pass milestones in their businesses. Very rewarding!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I do have a few books that I feel like changed how I think…

360 Degree Leadership – John Maxwell
7 Habits of Highly Effective Individuals – Stephen Covey
Crucial Conversations – Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, Al Switzler
