Today we’d like to introduce you to Ixchel Frierson.
Hi Ixchel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Ixchel (ee-shell), a Bronx Native with Belizean roots who is passionate about empowering and inspiring those around me. I love to be in settings that cultivate and promote creativity, cultural awareness and education. Three years ago, I became ill and this ordeal forced me to embark on a journey to educate myself about mental health, holistic health and wellness practices while searching to discover solutions about how to tackle my undiagnosed, chronic illness. My struggle and urge to be transparent inspired me to be a champion for educating and encouraging others on the importance of making necessary lifestyle adjustments to avoid dis-ease, maintaining optimal physical and mental health and supporting our sacred Mother Earth.
I am proud to say that I have inspired others to make critical changes to diet, nutritional supplementation, beauty products & regimens, everyday lifestyle and mental health practices. My end goal has always been to transform my life and that of others with dignity and grace. This search for solutions is what led to the idea for creating a healthy, organically sustainable brand that could provide options for others like myself and be a catalyst of shifting the momentum of our society and lifestyles. This is what birthed “BasiX by Ixchel”.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having chronic lyme disease, I am never able to tell how I will feel day to day, sometimes even hour to hour. So building a brand through intense brain fog, debilitating fatigue, muscle and joint pain/weakness and the mental/emotional challenges that come with this illness makes it a daunting task. What keeps me going is definitely my desire to inspire but it’s also because I know I have to keep pushing through. I had to accept the fact that I can’t be a workaholic and spend countless hours on my laptop doing research. I needed to have a daily plan that accomplished goals based on how many spoons (chronic illness term using “spoons” as a unit of energy) I felt I had for the day. Many days, I could only make one social media post or send a few follow up emails and I had to find it within me to accept my process and my journey without comparing it to anyone else.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
