Hidden Gems: Meet Keyonne Spencer of Spencer Counseling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyonne Spencer.

Keyonne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I came to Houston from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I started working for Child Protective Services as an administrative assistant and fell in love with the social services field. I decided to pursue the field of Marriage and Family Counseling because I believe that stable, healthy marriages produce healthy children, thus decreasing the need for so many children ending up in foster care.

I received my Masters in Science degree from Capella University in Marriage in Family Therapy and am now licensed in the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Soon after, I started working on opening my very own private practice to pursue my mission of helping families in my community. I am now the proud owner of Spencer Counseling Services, where I plan to expand soon into a group practice to be able to assist even more families.

I am now licensed in 3 states, Texas, Louisiana and Florida. I also have a certification as a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP).

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having a full-time job, being married to a supportive husband who also runs our mentor program for boys and raising a family with two teenage girls.
