Hidden Gems: Meet Lila Taylor of The Laundry Fairy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lila Taylor.

Hi Lila, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Like many entrepreneurs, I started out of necessity. We are a homeschooled family. I needed to create some sort of income from home. I had been cleaning houses and doing laundry for 14 years, but my kids were at an age where we needed to be home more to focus on their school work. So I had the idea that I could go to people’s houses to pick up their laundry, process it, then return it later that day. It seemed like a plan I could create a life around. And that’s exactly what it turned into. After a few months at this side hustle, I had accumulated quite a consistent clientele. I remember I asked my husband for his advice as to how many clients I should take. When should I cap this off? He said the words of wisdom that we now quite literally live by. “Never put God in a box. If God will continue to bless you, accept it.” I took that wisdom and just kinda ran with it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has NOT been a smooth road. We started our company in January of 2019. In the beginning, I had 1 washer and 1 dryer. After a couple of months in business, we became really busy and I wasn’t able to finish all the laundry in 1 day. So I would set my alarm to wake up every hour to swap and fold the laundry all night long and I would do this for DAYS. We did eventually get more washers and dryers for my sanity. After being in business for 1 year, we decided that 2020 was going to be our year! It was going to be the year we took our company to the next level. We were ALL in….. until the shutdown. It was like watching my world crumble around me in slow motion. Luckily, we have deemed an essential business so we just kept going. If the government thought we were essential, maybe others would too. During the “2020 thing” we accumulated a whole new demographic of clients. We became something different than what was before. We were no longer just a luxury service. Our service had become a lifestyle essential to the brave men and women on the forefront of the pandemic. This meant we had to pivot to fit the new clients. We were picking up laundry in the middle of the night, staying up all night to finish it so we could return it in the morning. We had to throw our regular schedule out the window and we just catered to the needs of our new clients. This was the time in our company when we invented our company culture mindset and mantra “We will love people through the season they are in.”

We’ve been impressed with The Laundry Fairy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
