Hi Maria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2015, I left a successful career in public service and moved from the state of Texas and relocated to New York City. The most important factor behind my success was the guidance that was given to me at a young age through my previous 20-year career as a public servant. I attained my Esthetician certification from Long Island Nail & Skin in New York. After my initial certification in New York, I relocated a few more times and have gained certifications in each state that I have lived in. I hold certifications in the states of New York, Michigan and Texas. I love the thought that purpose gives direction to life. If you fill your morning with successful habits, you will see progress every single day. If you embrace failure and try again every time, YOU WILL SUCCEED!! I’ve lived by my motto of, “If you fall, get up and try again”. Never give Up! The life of an Esthetician business owner requires many risks and investments. In this line of business, I have to invest in equipment, and products for services to keep up with the trend of esthetics. I believe that education is key to my success. Keeping my clients informed on skin care is what drives me!
Confidence plays a huge part in my success in growing my business. I am my own worst critic, and there is always room for improvement. In order to reach my goals, I will continue to educate myself. The more educated I can become, the better I can educate my clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Easy?!? Absolutely not. I took a huge leap by starting my business during the pandemic – I started in the middle of a pandemic. No one wanted to come out, and that was a struggle in its own. I set up my spa from the ground up and gave it my all. Early on, it was difficult finding new clients, and the business was quite slow. However, I was determined to see this come to fruition, and success was the only thing on my mind. I am not a quitter and I have always said, “It’s Sink or Swim”. I chose to stay above water. My business, Bella Day Spa, has been open for nearly two years, and we are here to stay.

Bella Day Spa was founded in 2020, and is locally owned and operated. Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
After a 20-year career as a public servant, I was ready for a change. While serving as a public servant, I was comfortable in all that I did. After all, I had done this for 20 years. However, I knew it was time for change. I also knew I wanted to continue helping people, but in what capacity? After much thought and consideration, I put all my efforts into becoming an esthetician. In this new career field, I knew I could continue helping people, only in a different manner – people’s self-esteem and personal confidence by helping with their skin care. I became an esthetician, and shortly thereafter began working in spas across the country, mostly in high-end spas. This complete change in careers was a huge leap of faith, and opening my own business in the midst of the pandemic was a larger risk. It was not easy, but as I remained optimistic, and pushed through the challenges, I am pleased to share that we have pushed through these challenges and continue to provide quality skin care services to many clients throughout the Houston Metropolitan Area.
