Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamica Clark.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? The passion for health and fitness started in 2013 when a friend of mine introduced me to CrossFit as a challenge. It was something totally different and out of my comfort zone. Eventually, the overall lifestyle changes became a lifestyle for me, not just physically but mentally especially battling depression. As years passed, I had the opportunity to help friends and family members make lifestyle changes with proper eating habits and exercises. While helping others on the side for fun, my husband was battling with Type 2 diabetes. His diagnosis came with lots of complications. He went through rounds of surgeries and procedures, bone infections, and blood transfusions etc. . While battling this disease, he lost his full-time job and had to apply for disability due to various complications that lead him not able to stand for a long period of time or fully function. I’ll never forget the day when my son and I came home and found him unconscious. That resulted in him being in an induced coma for several days due to infection and low blood count. A couple of months later we received devastating and life-changing news that he would need a below-the-knee amputation. As a wife and mother this hit hard but God would guide me all the way through and restore his health. The surgery happened a few months before COVID impacted the world, so his recovery was a little hard. Due to worry about him catching the virus I decided to help him with recovery instead by teaching him how to walk, function, etc.
While going through all this with my husband, the passion of health and fitness sparked backup so, I received my personal fitness certification in 2019 and started my business along with a diabetes awareness event called “Faith & Strength to Endure “in reference from Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hope for the evidence of things not yet seen.” This initiative was started to help the community by advocating, educating, and supporting those who are battling diabetes or a loved one. Each year we put together a community walk, health fair and provide funds for individuals who need financial assistance with medical supplies or medication. Our goal for the 5th anniversary (2023) is to host a banquet and create a scholarship foundation. Health and fitness have not only changed so many lives who I encountered, but it’s been a blessing to give back to my community while helping others battling diabetes one day at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any new thing comes challenges but I’m truly blessed to have a strong village that’s been supportive and by my side every step of the way. With God all things are possible. My fitness started in my garage with minimum equipment and not much space so some days training sessions were held at a public park. A year later I’d step out on faith and found a location to train my clients and was blessed with more equipment. I’ve learned along the way that although marketing your business is tedious, utilizing free marketing platforms such as social media and word of mouth can be very essential for growth and prosperity.
