Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Salas.
Hi Tony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
As a near-lifelong Houstonian and native Texan born in Pharr, I grew up in a family that instilled in me a conscientious, enterprising spirit. I learned dedication and earnest values while working at my parents’ car wash when I was a young boy, and started my own food service business as a teenager in high school. I’ve held on to my family’s blue-collar values throughout my career in business and finance. My background in the commercial finance industry has helped me generate millions of dollars through new loan originations for small to medium sized companies. I understand the capital needs of companies and have helped many with operating and expansion capital. Beyond providing access to liquid capital, I recognize the value of social capital and know how to build it linking private-public partnerships.
My experiences in this field drove me to create the Greater Houston Trucking Association in 2019, helping area operators organize to protect themselves against unfair practices by associated businesses and government agencies. As a former candidate for State Representative in the State of Texas, I have built political relationships with various policymakers to voice industry needs and concerns.
Through my advocacy, I am a sought out guest on local and national news addressing pressing issues in the supply chain.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Through my journey as an entrepreneur, I experienced many unexpected twists and turns. These encounters were lessons learned, and for me created a lens to understanding if there was one thing that I could rely on, it was the meaning of change is inevitable. Becoming a leader, provided me with a peaceful outlook at wanting to build better professional and community relationships for the individuals I serve. Thus, I continue my journey of servitude and maintain a peaceful insight about new opportunities that may require stepping out of my comfort zone. Because it is in times of discomfort, that the most progress is made.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
The crux of success is differentiated in many facets and forms for individuals. Though, I believe our creator has planted a seed of purpose and talent in every one of us. For me, success holds the greatest value through my work and social bonds I maintain within the community. As humans, when we provide the right circumstances for the seeds to grow and blossom into its designed purpose, success will avail. My belief is that our duty and obligations to construct positive circumstances in our life which ultimately will allow us to grow into the best versions of ourselves. Personally, for me a successful day is when I wake up in the morning feeling a sigh of relief, such as being “bright eyed and bushy tailed”, and or when I go to bed consciously knowing I gave every bit of me, without holding back. My goal is to have many successful days, that will ultimately lead to changing the community to become a better place for all.
