Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Newton.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Ashley Newton. Owner of Ashley Newton & Co., and Posh Day Spa. I’m the author of “Shifting in Purpose – a 30-Day Purpose Transformation”, and an Esthetician, specializing in skincare. I’m from Lorain, Ohio and have lived in Columbus since 2015. I started not knowing what I wanted to do with myself, but knowing the kind of impact, I aim to make in my lifetime. I’ve worked in the corporate world, just learning and contributing as much as I can, which has helped me tremendously in the world of entrepreneurship. In 2021 I pivoted and decided to take a risk. I left my job, for a season, and went to Cosmetology school to get my license. While in school, I published my first book in December of 2021, finished school in March of 2022, obtained my license in April and jumped straight into Entrepreneurship on May 16, 2022. (Yes I’m crazy). But, I wanted to take a risk that I believe is setting me up for the impact I aim to make. I now juggle my spa, corporate job, motherhood, and events, and I love everything I am learning in this season. Even in busy moments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road. I used to crave it, though. I just wanted things to run smoothly, and it seemed like I continually received the opposite. I’ve struggled in motherhood, with post-partum and attempting to find myself while being a young mother. I’ve struggled with losing people near and dear to me, in seasons I felt like I needed them most. I’ve struggled with my identity and purpose, just trying to figure out how to fit all of me into a society that tries to put you into a box. I now understand the call that is on my life is not an easy one, so every bump in the road is well worth it. The struggles and “bumps” in the road really shake things up and test your character, building perseverance. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We’ve been impressed with Ashley Newton & Co. and Posh Day Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ll start with Posh Day Spa. Posh is a concept that was a prisoner in my head since I was a teenager. Though I didn’t have the name back then, I longed to be in the beauty industry, one day having my own spa and making individuals everywhere feel beautiful. I took the route of trying to obtain my college degree, twice! That wasn’t for me. I tussled, for years, with what I would do with my life, and fell back into Esthetics. When I obtain my license, I’d already laid out my 1, 5, and 10-year business plan for Posh Day Spa, and decided to run with it. At Posh, I specialize in facials, full-body waxing, and make-up. We will be growing and introducing permanent make-up in 2023. I am known for my “Posh Lush Facial”, which is a 75-minute luxury facial, with all the best products, techniques, and vibes. I include a detailed treatment plan and product recommendation to each client booked under this service. Our skin is our largest organ and in the front and center of our everyday lives. It is also many individuals’ biggest insecurity, so being able to be a part of such an important journey makes me feel amazing. What sets us apart is our desire to create a relaxing, trustworthy environment, while staying focused on results-driven skincare. I am most proud of my brand, still being new, maintaining quality, luxury service to all clients that walk into my space.
Ashley Newton & Co. is my personal brand. It represents all things luxury, self-care, purpose, and intentionality. In this space, I get to connect with women, specifically centering the conversation around purpose and finding the luxury in your everyday life. As women, we wear so many hats, but we seem to place different ones on at different times, feeling like we can only be one thing at any given moment. We are a collection of so many different things and experiences. I want us to start wearing the hat collaged with all of the parts of us, even the ones we feel society doesn’t want to fit into certain spaces.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Be a student, always. You will never get to the point in life where you will know everything. You can get those degrees, read every self-help or educational book, take all of the courses, obtain every license and certification, and travel the world for knowledge, but there will always be something to learn. Remaining a student keeps your mind open to different experiences, views, and opinions, while still being able to stay true to what you believe in.
