Today we’d like to introduce you to Danita Tate.
Danita, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Danita Tate … a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an author and an entrepreneur. My story started long before the Chiquita Brand. I am the second oldest of 7 children of a drug-addicted mother. At 15 years old, I was pushed into the role of mother and caregiver for my 6 siblings. This led to me dropping out of school and turning to shoplifting to feed and clothe them. This led to jail time and a walk down the wrong path in life. Fast forward to 2009, my sister Attorney Chiquita Tate was murdered in her downtown. After her death I wanted to do something that would keep her memory alive I founded first Chiquita’s Blessed hands, a cleaning service, and then one year coming up to her birthday, I wanted to do something besides a balloon release. That was when Chiquita’s Miracle Works was birthed. A bathroom cleaner and Multipurpose cleaner. Since then, we have added candles and a scrubbing pad to the Miracle Works Line. Last, I finally had the courage to put my journey on paper and released my first of many books, Life of a Survivor. The latest addition to The Chiquita Brand is Chiquita’s Blessed Transportation a non-medical transportation service. My life revolves around keeping my sister’s name alive and advocating for women and men who live with domestic violence
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My life has been anything but smooth. I had to be an adult when I was a child and care for my siblings and accept my sister’s death and how she died.

The Chiquita Brand includes cleaning service, cleaning supplies created by me, and a transportation service. I am most known for the cleaning supplies and the supplies set us apart from the local business because I actually create and produce them myself. There is no on-demand company creating the supplies. I want them to know that we ship our cleaning products globally and that a portion of the proceeds goes to help a domestic violence survivor.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a fighter. Never was a bully, but if you started it, I finished. Even though I was a fighter, I was a straight-A student.
