Patrana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The idea to launch an online retail store selling exclusively clutch handbags developed from becoming a mother and wanting an alternative to carrying large handbags. Nearly six months after launching, my love of fashion motivated me to expand by business by offering jewelry and apparel. As women, we sometimes lose our confidence because of several life factors, such as: childbirth, gaining/losing weight, finances, grief, etc. Fashion has a way of instantly boosting self-image, because when you look good, you feel good even if it’s just for the moment.
As I approach my one-year anniversary in business, I am reminded that operating a small business is about progress over perfection. I have earned more genuine followers on social media (I am adamant about deleting fake accounts and not buying followers for the sake of looking popular), profits are starting to roll in, more people are learning about my business, and I am learning more about my ideal customer. I have learned a lot on this journey from mentors, small business owners, family, and friends, and I am going to keep pushing through the challenges as they make me a better business owner.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Operating a business is anything but smooth. One of my biggest challenges right now is learning the ins and outs of marketing; and finding the balance between working full-time while juggling being a wife and mother. I recently made it a point to create a block of time allocated to working on my business each day, and not waiver from it. I have plenty of resources at my disposal, so now it’s about applying the knowledge that I have soaked up over the past year in business.

Too many times, I have read reviews with feedback of customers feeling deceived because the product they received wasn’t as described, the product description didn’t provide enough information, return shipping sometimes costs more than the item itself, or representatives were rude and inattentive to the needs of the customer. It is my priority to ensure all customers have an exceptional shopping experience and become repeat customers.
