Life and Work with Charity Garrido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Garrido.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I remember very vividly when I was 5 years old. On one of my Kindergarten progress reports, I received all A’s on all subjects. My teacher had noted that I was a good student, however, I was “bossy” at times with my classmates. When my Mom read that feedback to me, I felt bad. I didn’t want to be “bossy”. I didn’t want to be perceived as mean or that I was a bully. It left a poor impression on me at 5 years old and I strived to be a people pleaser.

What if my teacher said I had leadership skills but need a little coaching and encouragement on how to interact with her peers? Would that have helped me feel empowered? Funny how I used my innate “bossiness” to work in my favor in life. I’ve always been the first to raise my hand and step up to challenges. I like being in charge. I like mentoring individuals and growing a team. I enjoy accomplishing goals. I love being “The Boss”.

When I decided to become an entreprenuer, after having my 3rd baby girl in 2015, it really was the perfect fit. Being in charge of my own business, and deciding when and where I wanted to “work” that day. I wanted to be home with my grown children and still make an impact and make an income on my own terms.

Being a wife and Mother does not change the fact that you are a powerful and inspiring Woman. But, many women, feel that once they become a wife or mother, they have to take a step back to who they are. This is why I chose Get It Girl Boss as my business name – it’s a mantra to myself to keep going and to empower women to do the same!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I launched my “side – hustle” business, my goal was to pay off my labor and delivery hospital bills. It was an “extra” income to help with our already tight finances. Once, I was able to do that, I set a bigger goal to match my full-time income, so I could stay at home full time with my children.

It’s hard not to compare your journey with other business owners that either started about the same time as you did, or even that started later. And, life happens! Moving to another state, from Nevada to Texas in my case, new full-time jobs, and natural disasters, like Hurricane Harvey, which we lost our home to the flood, has set me “back” a number of times. And, getting lost in my own head of “Maybe, this isn’t right for me” or “She’s doing it better than me”, can also hold me back.

You are definitely welcome to think those things, but don’t entertain them too long. Finding your “tribe” of women that are also entreprenuers, doing the same thing, is incredibly inspiring and they can provide so much support. I love my team so much, and would not be holding on to my dream, without them.

It’s a journey with a long goal. It is not a race to see who gets their faster or who ultimately Wins the prize. Because everyone can be a Winner in this because the prize is different for every single person.

You have to have grit, perserverance, integrity, and humbleness to get you there. So, don’t give up! Just KEEP GOING!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Get It Girl Boss – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
In addition to being an Independent Skincare Consultant, I also love to blog. My focus is on style, skincare tips, and sharing stories about amazing women that are committed to loving that #BOSSLife!

Get It Girl Boss is about empowering and encouraging women to live a life of confidence. My favorite part of this business and blog is to hear from others that look forward to seeing my posts, because they feel motivated and inspired with positivity, to get them through whatever it is they are going through. That’s what encourages me to keep going because there are so many women that just need more positivity and authenticity in this world.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
You are going to hear NO. And, that’s OK! Don’t be afraid of the no’s, because it’s not always a rejection of you as a person, but it may be a redirection to something better than you can imagine!

Failure is part of success. You have to keep trying, show up, and not let it deter you from achieving your dreams.
