Today we’d like to introduce you to Keosha Jenkins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I never imagined, I would become a fashion designer, however, as I contemplated a new career path; I began to explore my love for fashion and art. Not necessarily from a designer perspective, but as an overall admirer. I began to teach myself the methods of sewing and design, as a way of discovery. I then realized I had an aspiration in being in the fashion industry. I started attending the Art institute of Houston as a fashion design student. Once I began to embrace my own style, I also developed a keen sense of what fashion is and how to harness the craft of creating something unique with a hint of abstract detail. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, I launched my own label in October of 2017, Melan’Je by Keosha J, catering to women’s contemporary ready-to-wear and custom clothing. My goals are to continue the path I have taken in growing my brand while expressing my talents through art and fashion.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey has not been easy, but it has been very rewarding. Even ‘til this day, I sometimes have doubts of the decisions I made to enter into such a competitive industry. One lesson I have learned along the way and would like to share is, always stay true to yourself and never compromise who you are to conform to the status quo or fad, in order to succeed.

I am a fashion designer and owner of Melan’Je, catering to women’s contemporary ready-to-wear with a hint of abstract detail and custom clothing. I am most known for providing high quality and sophisticated day/night or evening women’s attire. I am most proud of providing a service that allows any woman to feel beautifully empowered inside and out. My clients have always commented on the level of detail, care and professionalism I’ve shown while working or communicating with them.
Who have you been inspired by?
Coming from a small town, my mother inspired me to dream big and strive for success in all things I embark on in life. I am also inspired by other relatively unknown women whom I have never met, but I have admired their journeys.
