Life and Work with Natalie Thomas and Audrey Zeter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Thomas and Audrey Zeter, founders of Katy Moms Network.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Natalie and Audrey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We were brought together by motherhood three years ago when we both moved into a new community in Katy, right across the street from each other. Our girls were just four months apart in age and we soon became pregnant with our boys shortly after, and they’re four months apart, as well! We became fast friends bonding over all things motherhood and just being a sounding board for each other, especially through our pregnancies and that joyous, but the very hard first year of life with our boys.

The wheels started turning for Katy Moms Network in the early Spring of 2018, after recognizing a need in the community. We wanted to create a community where local moms could go for resources and information, while also being a source for inspiration, community and togetherness, and support. We thought, if we can give moms the gift of time and community, we’ve done our job!

We launched Katy Moms Network in June of 2018 and it’s been a beautiful whirlwind journey ever since! In short, Katy Moms Network is a resource-rich website with local events and information that all moms need, as well as blog features and a space to support local businesses. We also do monthly Mom Meet Ups in the community to bring moms together and have an awesome following on social media where we can connect with mamas of all walks of life in the Houston area! We absolutely love it and it’s such a passion for us.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is ever easy! And to be honest, when we started this platform, neither of us felt like we had any extra time to give. If there was ever a bad time to start something, it was when we launched because we had so much on our plate, as all mamas do! Natalie works full-time and Audrey is a full-time stay at home mama, so we were nervous to take on something else. But something in our soul burned for this and although it took many late nights to get the site live, and still takes a lot of our time to devote to making it great, it never feels like work. If you love something and are passionate about it, you’ll find a way. And at the end of the day, Katy Moms Network isn’t about us. It’s about the mamas that we want to support. Those moms who love and rely on our content, it’s all for them. The messages we get from moms almost daily are enough to keep us going, even on our toughest days.

Our best advice for any woman wanting to start something outside of being a mom is just START. Just do it. That’s the first step is committing. Once you commit to doing something you love, the rest will follow. No, it won’t always be easy, but neither is motherhood! If you’re a mom, you’re a superhero already in our eyes. And guess what? It’s OK to want something outside of being a mom. It’s OK to have passions and interests outside of taking care of your family. As women, we always put others before ourselves, but what we’re finding more and more of is moms standing up and saying, “wait a minute, I want things in life too” and they’re finding a way to pursue those passions, make some extra income, and do it all while also being amazing mothers. We love this and want to see more of it!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Katy Moms Network – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Katy Moms Network is a community for moms, with content that’s relatable across any city, but also a focus towards supporting local moms right here in Katy.

Most of us all follow some larger scale mom community online. The ‘I Mom So Hard’ and ‘Cat & Nat’ platforms of the world, along with awesome blogs like Motherly and Scary Mommy- tons of amazing platforms that bring togetherness, acceptance, and support back to motherhood. But when we started this, there was nothing like that on a hyper-local level that we’d ever been able to connect with in a meaningfull way. We wanted to create a space where women could go to feel supported, inspired, accepted, normal, and provide a true sense of community. We wanted to create a space where moms could feel understood by the moms who literally live next door, who are doing this all right alongside them. We wanted a platform where you can get all the information you need to make mom life easier: information on best doctors, best places for dinner with kids, and what the heck to do in this town with those tiny humans, all in one place, curated for you. There was nothing like this, so we created it!

What you’ll find on our site and our social media channels is information to make moms lives easier! We have local resources, activities and events, as well as original, unique content. Our content aims to inform, support, inspire, uplift, educate, and hopefully even make you laugh a little. Or maybe we can make a day where you felt guilty for yelling at your dang kids all day feel okay and normal because hey, we probably did it too. Because behind this website are just two Katy moms, just like you.

We like to think the best way to do this whole mom thing is with each other – a community of strong, kind, supportive mamas. They say it takes a village and we couldn’t agree more. Our best advice for any mother is to find your people. And if you don’t have your people yet, let us be your people. We would love to be in your village!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Work hard, be kind, and be unapologetically yourself. You’re going to come across people in your career who will want to build you up, stay close to them. Stay clear of anyone who doesn’t allow you to shine in your own unique way. And lastly, as the saying goes, when women support other women, beautiful things happen.
