Life and Work with Nikki Hohman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Hohman.

Nikki, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated from the University of Houston in 2011 with a supply chain management degree. I thought I might climb the corporate ladder in the oil and gas field. I was hired on as a procurement specialist with Cameron International, now Schlumberger, I jump-started my career there for about three years. It truly did not fuel me… I like to be directly impacting people’s lives and this was not where I saw myself. I took a one-year hiatus, obtained my real estate license and have been loving my career for the last four years! I found my home at Nan and Company Properties in October of 2018 after growing with a smaller brokerage for the last three years. It has been a whirlwind!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my college years, I competed in pageants. I had multiple rejections and runner up winnings but I always kept going back for more. I transfer this into my career as I am open to trying new types of learning and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Failing is part of the journey as that will catapult you into a positive new venture! Never let anyone tell you cannot do something… anything is possible with hard work. Just keep your head in the game and push yourself to try something new or different. If you are comfortable, then you are not growing.

Please tell us about Realtor with Nan and Company Properties.
I like to call myself a matchmaker; a matchmaker of homes that is! I help individuals find that special home that they fall in love with! I work with people looking for their forever home and some looking just for an investment. I am most proud of being apart of the American Dream. Home ownership is a part of the  journey and sometimes I get to follow my clients into multiple phases of their lives and that to me is so special and what I love most about my job. When passion and career intertwine… it is a beautiful thing and does not feel like work! What sets me apart from others is I am open to helping anyone… does not matter the price point. Nothing is too small or too big for me to handle! I am heading a team this year and we all hold the same morals and values to make the home buying or selling process a breeze! I have the dream team!

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
In my field, it is primarily female-dominated which is amazing! Women in this industry have to be someone’s therapist, supporter, financial advisor, friend, and everything in between. I say there are no barriers right now so we can just keep going up and up and excel in real estate. Looking forward to continuing my success with Nan and Company Properties and become a Houston household name for real estate needs!
