Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Mayfield.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Savannah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I’ve always had a love for planning events. I was the go-to person in the family and with coworkers. I never had a major event to plan for myself until 2014 when my now-husband asked me to be his wife. Yes! I was that crazy DIY Bride. I planned/made almost everything for my big day. After a year of planning, I enjoyed it so much that I decided to leave my job in luxury retail and start my own event styling company. I didn’t want to limit myself to just weddings, so I’ve always told clients. “I plan anything you want to celebrate” Halfway through my journey, I completely fell in love with floral design. #flowersmakemehappy and can make any event that much better. I originally had the business name of Rustic Houston. I started to feel like my name was keeping me in a box. Only appealing to caliente that preferred rustic design. I wanted my caliente to know that I could be considered as their Florist and their Event Planner. That’s where the name Blooms & Cheers came from. I’m so happy I decided to rename my small business. It was the best decision I’ve never made.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not!
First off starting from scratch, with very little content and no caliente is hard. When we live in a world that’s all about likes and followers.
Trial and error is also a big part of starting a business. In the beginning, nothing came easy. As I continued to iron out the kinks, I was able to learn what worked well for me and what didn’t. If you stick it out things get easier and become more rewarding.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others.
I’m a Florist and Event Stylist. I’m known for Bridal bouquets, Flower crowns, Flower bars and Wedding planning. I also love, love a themed party. I’m always trying to make my clients. #pinterestdreamscometrue
I’m most proud of being able to do things my way.
I believe all clients deserve beautiful florals at their events. I’m always willing to work with clients to find the right fit for them. I’ve been the Bride and know how stressful and important that day is.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Networking is your best friend. Join groups, volunteer, do styled shoots. Anything to get your name out there, also any option to get pictures of your craft is worth it.
Your time is priceless, know your worth!
