Life and Work with Sloane Ivy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sloane Ivy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sloane. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Truthfully, talking/speaking, in general, has always been my favorite thing to do and something I have done very well from a young age. As I grew older, I began to understand the influence and power you can have just by speaking your truth and using your voice to help others, and that is what solidified my purpose/passion. In 2015 I started my youtube channel ‘Conversations with Sloane Ivy’ a web show where I interviewed a variety of people on lifestyle topics from health, sports to fashion and art. Combining my love of meeting new people and using my voice to share other people’s stories is something that brings me great joy. Earlier this year in 2018, a friend of mine and I created a Body Positive Podcast that caters largely to Plus Size women called “Excuse My Thickness.” I am a Body Positive Enthusiast and love to share with the world how each and every one of us should be confident, and in love, with the skin/body/shape/size we are in!! Combining my purpose for using my voice to help others while being true and transparent to everything I am feeling and I am passionate about led me to have a content that is streamed and shared all over the country.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been smooth at all but so worth it. In the Storytelling, Broadcast realm, we are producing new content each week, starting off you have to be the director, producer, videographer, scout and talent all in one. In the beginning, it was overwhelming at times, but after I completed an episode and saw my vision come to life, I was grateful and so proud of the hard work I did to tell reach my audience. The advice I have for other women starting their journey is just to ..START. Don’t wait until your website is perfect, don’t worry that you don’t know what the blog is about next week. Just start, put yourself out there and stay true to what is happening to you and everything else will flow. Also, to stay committed, do not be discouraged if after months you haven’t went viral. Stay the course and keep putting out authentic work and the payoff will come. Have fun with it!! Unplug from how much you need to market yourself on social media and if you are getting enough likes or Retweets and just enjoy what you are doing. Don’t ever lose that.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Sloane Ivy Show and Excuse My Thickness Podcast – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Host, Speaker, Broadcaster and Body Positive Influencer. I am known for hosting events, panels and interviewing experts of vast backgrounds. I am known for being an influential voice for the Body Positive movement and plus size community. I am most proud of my brand “Sloane Ivy” and chasing my dreams daily. I am a lover of Sports, Fashion and Lifestyle! I incorporate all of these things into my brand because they are who I am and staying authentic to myself is what sets my brand apart and what makes my audience engage with me. They want the real Sloane Ivy, and that is exactly what I always give them, nothing less than.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
Podcast- Excuse My Thickness!! Lol!!
I am an avid reader, and I try to alternate between non-fiction and fiction monthly, but there is nothing I love more than reading a fiction book and letting my imagination run wild and make me feel like I am in the book. The Alchemist by Paul Coelho is my favorite book and the book I reread the most to remember the bigger picture of everything and how all the tools I need to create my destiny are already inside me. When I am reading and feeding my brain, I come up with great content, stimulating the brain is important for my creative process. I watched a thousand different youtube channels before starting mine and knowing exactly what I wanted to created. As well as I followed so many plus size blogs before I thought to do my podcast. I google everything I think and question and use the many resources we have at our fingertips wisely. I also reach out to people who I admire and ask them to lunch or ask them for advice and guidance. You’ll be amazed at how many people are willing to help you and hone your skills. JUST ASK.
