Today we’d like to introduce you to Timberlynn Platenburg.
Timberlynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a fascination with fashion, hair and makeup. As I got older, that fascination only grew larger. I received my first mannequin head freshman year of high school, and the rest was history. Soon, after I graduated college in 2011, I started HairExotica, an online virgin hair company. I sought out the best virgin hair vendor to provide my clients with premium hair. Now, here we are March 2018, I launched the Beautiful Collection, which is HairExotica’s 1st 3D mink lash collection. I hope to soon branch off into a store front, adding fashion and makeup to my brand. My ultimate goal is to have a swimsuit/lingerie line along with a lipstick line, in addition to hair and lashes.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road was and still is a rough one. I had to learn to separate myself from toxic people who always have constant unwarranted criticism. I’ve cried numerous nights over that decision, but I know it was the best for me mentally. Starting a business is not easy. The key is to remain focused, pray for your business daily and keep positive people around you.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with HairExotica – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work in property management full time, and grow my business after hours. I travel between Houston and Baton Rouge providing clients with the highest quality, 100% virgin Brazilian hair installs and 3D Mink lash strips. In addition to hair installs, I recently got certified in eyelash extensions, so I will be adding that to my traveling services soon. I also ship my products worldwide.
I’m known for offering top notch customer service, strict quality control and affordable prices. The one thing that I’m most proud of as a brand is growing. I’ve come a long way from where I started in 2011, and I’m still a one-man show that’s kicking butt! There is a ton of hair and lash companies out there, but I feel like my branding is what sets me apart from others. The definition of Exotica is things excitingly different, unusual, and beautiful. I feel like my products are just that excitingly different and beautiful. When people wear my products they stand out, because it simply enhances the beauty that they already have. I truly care about my customers and go above and beyond to make sure they are satisfied.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Whether you decide to become an entrepreneur or work a 9-5, make sure it’s something that you love doing. There is no greater feeling than waking up and doing something you love!
