Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Ferrell.
Hi Anthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2018, my husband Alan Lett and I began designing and printing Houston-inspired tees out of our garage. We sold online and at local markets where we built a following. We branded ourselves “OG713,” a callout to Houston’s original area code.
In 2020, we moved into a production space and ramped up production to meet the demand. We opened two consignment locations at the Painted Tree in Sugar Land and Champions, and have just opened our first official store at Railway Heights Market near Washington and I-10 where we can showcase more shirt designs, art and accessories.
In September 2021, OG713 won the “Gayest and Greatest” award for best Men’s clothing store.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Overall, we have been lucky to have an ever-growing, loyal and consistent customer base. From the start, defining who we were as a brand was an important step in our vision. But the hustle of weekly local markets didn’t leave us much time to develop our story. After the onset of the COVID pandemic, we braced ourselves for the change in cash flow, while the shift from in-person markets to online sales gave us the time to focus on deepening our identity by creating brand guidelines and introducing our spaceman mascot character. Now, our best-selling items include our logo and the spaceman.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We find inspiration in Houston’s story and its history. From designs that draw from Houston’s celebrated architecture to ones that transport you to Summer days at Astroworld, our aesthetic is thoroughly H-town native.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Focus on developing a strong brand, cohesive identity and distinct personality and people will naturally feel connected to your brand on a personal level.
