Life & Work with Antoine Bennett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoine Bennett.

Hi Antoine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a 26-year-old singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, engineer and creative director from Long Island, NY. As I could remember all I would do is sing and dance for my family as a child, I would write songs, produce, sing melodies and learn choreography off the TV. Back then there was no YouTube or anything I really sat and studied MTV. I remember watching Britney’s “Slave 4 U” video, I wanted to do exactly that. I played the drums in the band and even was a part of the school choir.

“Making the Band 3” played a major role in paying attention to artist development and making choices as an artist. My parents made it known that I should find a career in something else I loved before I dipped myself in music.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s hard being an independent artist, every bit of responsibility falls on you. From the production, Mix, Creative Direction, Lyrics, Setlist, and Budget.

It’s having to juggle multiple hats at once while not burning out at the same time. It’s a hate-love relationship.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Music. I’m an Electronic Artist which is Rare for a Black kid.

I’m most proud of my album, I did everything within a year. Lyrics, Production, Mix, Master, Track listing, and Creative Direction. The album featured Kako Da Kaveman, Wuhryn Dumas, Dawn Richard (of Danity Kane & Dirty Money), AlanMichael and YawnyBlew (Grammy Winning Background Vocalist).

Which was a conceptual album about going home once a relationship has failed.

What sets me apart is that everything you hear is organically me, you can feel me in records. It sounds like the future with inflections of the past.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk I’ve taken is believing in myself. I’ve spent thousands of dollars believing everything is gonna make sense in the end. Knowing that one day my investment will pay off.
