Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Martinez.
Hi Cindy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a stay at home mom after having my third child. This gave me the privilege to be available full time to volunteer for my kids’ school PTO and signed up to be a Girl Scout Troop Leader. These positions gave me the opportunity to create and coordinate events. Organizing events is one of my passions. I’ve organized events for different occasions and for a variety of people. My biggest event was a father/daughter dance for 700 attendees! Seeing that event come to life is when I realized I was capable of becoming an event planner. Another passion of mine is giving. When it’s time to celebrate someone, I go big. I want to show them that they matter. So, creating a luxury picnic or event for a special occasion feels like a gift I am able to give someone. Making someone’s day makes me smile.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes, definitely. I started this business in the midst of COVID, with networking being only online. By this time, I was working accounting full time and working on my degree part time and I was dedicated to balancing it out. My baby sister died suddenly just after Bestie Events took off. It was a struggle to pick myself back up and keep moving forward. Many friends and family that have seen my work in volunteer positions requested my services for their events. That is how I was able to pick myself up and continue with my goals. My community saved me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Bestie Events is an event planning business. Creating birthday parties, school dances, holiday parties, corporate events, bridal showers, etc. We provide day of coordinating services for weddings and quinceaneras as well. Bestie Events specializes in luxury picnics. This has been the theme requested for several events of mine. Most picnic bookings were requesting charcuterie boards so I took that on and learned to create them. This sparked the idea of creating grazing boards! It suddenly became fun to create memorable table settings and customize them for specific occasions while leaving a lasting impression.
I am new to this and still learning so much. I take every piece of feedback and grow from it. Seeing others in this industry inspires me to keep growing.
I am most proud of the work I create and the passion I pour into it. I am proud to share such creativity with my children. We built our picnic tables ourselves. My daughter is just as talented, maybe even more, and creates magic with me at every event and every grazing board.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I definitely see this industry shifting so much in the future. Trends are always changing but that is what makes everything much more fun.
