Life & Work with Desiree Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Brown.

Hi Desiree, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been passionate about educating others about sexual wellness and health. During my freshman year at Prairie View A&M University, I became a member of Panther PhDs on campus. When I was a member, I educated students about Sexual wellness and health. After educating hundreds of students, I became very passionate about the subject. Fast Forward to February 2021, I decided to launch Alluring Sensations, and the rest is history…My goal is to educate the general public about sexual wellness. Sex and sexual wellness shouldn’t be a taboo matter, and I’m here to be a part of breaking that barrier.

(I want to give a special shout-out to my HBCU, Prairie View A&M University, for giving me all the tools I needed to be successful!)

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Many people have shamed me because of this business. That was hard and is still challenging for me, but I am passionate about this. Most of my customers are strangers; my support system for my business isn’t the people closest to me, which sucks, but I am blessed to have supporters. I’m learning to take everything with a grain of salt. Sometimes a business will not always be booming, so I have to challenge myself and give myself goals but not be hard on myself when I don’t reach those goals.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am 23 years old, and I am currently pursuing my MBA in business analytics. I will be graduating this summer. I am super excited about this because I never thought I would be here running a business, getting a second degree, and working full time. Although I sell adult novelties, starting this business has stopped me from making bad decisions in my love life. I’m more in tune with myself and my emotions and learned how not to make bad decisions in my love life when I feel lonely. I have been more focused than ever since starting my business. I love that I can educate people about sexual health, how to protect themselves and how to spice up their love lives.

I built my website by myself and learned how to code and use Search engine optimization for the website. I did not want to pay anyone, so I educated myself on these things, which has helped me in the long run. I also learned how to make cool flyers and graphics for my products. I am very proud of myself because I pushed myself to build this business and have not given up on my passion despite the negative backlash I get.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Always have plans A, B, C, and D . Never have just one resource when doing business. I learned that doing my research mattered not only for my product but also for logistics, packaging, price increases, etc.
