Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Perea.
Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I could remember, I wanted to own my own digital camera. I was a senior in high school trying to work and save money for school and my camera. One day, I decided to go to the bank, get a credit card and then was finally able to buy my first ever camera, a Canon Rebel T6 and ever since then, my life has changed. I’ve been lucky enough to travel, photograph concerts, festivals, celebrities and portraits with people from everywhere. I’m forever grateful for my first camera and the fact that I just upgraded to a full frame makes me feel great because my hard work has paid off.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This has definitely not been a smooth road. Obstacles will always be present no matter what you’re doing and it’s how you handle them that determines the outcome. I think some of the struggles along the way for everyone is self doubt or comparison to others. I learned that I am my own person and that my creative eye is different from everyone else.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in concert photography. I’m always at a concert/event photographing musicians and some of my favorite artists and festivals! Some of my proudest moments have been going out of state to photograph festivals, and even be given all access passes for artists to work for them. I think the thing that sets me apart from others may be my editing/shooting style. I love wide shots and including warm tones in all of my photos.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I think the best part about Houston is the diversity. There’s so many different things to shoot out here and there’s space for everyone. Whether it be music, real estate, commercial or even portrait work, there’s space for everyone to find their niche. I think my least favorite thing is the traffic (haha), there’s always something going on in our freeways.
