Life & Work with Somer Padilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Somer Padilla.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Sheer determination, genuine compassion, and a relentless work ethic with a side of sunshine is pretty much me in a nutshell. 15 years ago this California Valley girl turned into a Houstonian and has never looked back. I’m Somer Padilla; Entrepreneur, photographer, Realtor, producer, editor, songwriter, and now a host of “That’s My Houston”.

I can see the beauty in everyone I meet which gave me the talent to beautifully photograph people professionally for over 17 years. In 2012, at age 35, I made a career change to what has been the most gratifying and perfect career for me. This journey led me to start my own brokerage, The Somerlyn Group, which quickly grew more than anticipated and gave me the opportunity to partner with Compass Real Estate to expand and enhance our services and marketing platforms for our clients.

My Somerlyn Group has given me the opportunity to mentor and inspire a team of seven incredible women with over 100 years of combined experience. I have the privilege of working side by side with Nicole Fowler, Cathryn Haines, Carlotta Morris, Donna Ellis, Nikki Agosto, Marla Gregg, and Julia Harmon.

I have also had the honor of helping so many clients successfully make great investments. It’s imperative that I’m accessible, responsive, and that I follow through on everything that I commit to. My photography background has excelled me in marketing and presenting listings beautifully and strategically. I rely very heavily on creative video campaigns. For my buyers, understanding my client’s needs, desires, and lifestyle is imperative so I can strategically hone in and locate just the right neighborhood for them.

Photography was a wonderful avenue to feed my creative side, but real estate has enabled me to utilize so many of my traits; my intelligence, negotiation skills, education, marketing skills, and my genuine love to educate, nurture, and protect people. I have over 130 – 5 out of 5 Star reviews on HAR from verified clients that have bought and sold with me. I take every experience my clients have with me very seriously. I have gained their confidence and they continue to refer me to their friends and family. What I hope to accomplish and earn is the trust of everyone I encounter and to be authentic and genuine in everything I say and do.

What surprises people the most about me is that I’m a mom of four grown kids 24, 20, 17, and almost 15 and that I absolutely love to dance! And..you just might find me songwriting and singing for my incredibly talented music producer husband, Brian “Chazz” Padilla whose songs can be heard all over TV, films, and some epic movie trailers. We have been together for over 25 years and it’s incredible to see how far we have come and how fortunate we are to have basically grown up together and thankfully.. in the same direction.

Be you, love hard, celebrate others, and know we are no better than anyone else, and life will be good!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It takes a few years in real estate to become established. Experience is key to gaining clients’ trust and without that real estate can be a struggle. I immediately joined one of the Best Teams in Houston and did everything I could to shadow and assist. Open houses were crucial. Like my previous photography clientele, my results and word of mouth quickly started to spread. I truly believe that if your intentions are in the right place and you truly give all of you to your clients, new opportunities will naturally come to you.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Specialize in residential properties, secondary homes, investment hold and flip property analysis, land, luxury, and first-time buyers.

Expansion is imperative, so it was a natural progression to jump in front of the camera to create, produce, and Host a new local web show called “That’s My Houston”.

As a trusted resource for my clients, “That’s my Houston” became a perfect extension. This platform allows me to showcase everything fabulous about our city, its entrepreneurs, and its residents. It is a perfect way to celebrate this vibrant and diverse city that I truly love living and raising my family in.
