Life & Work with Valeria Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria Martinez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a passion for photography. Started with photography courses in HS not knowing it would be something that turned into my own business. I started photographing my children, to fun sessions for family and friends and eventually to what is now my career. I have been photographing for eight years now while working full time. This year has brought major changes and I have decided to focus full-time on my photography this year. All these years and experience along with the support of my clients who have turn to friends has brought on the confidence necessary to take this next step.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Is there really a smooth road out there? I think in life, we all have to overcome obstacles and learn to roll with the punches. Personally, I just wished I had taken the time to invest into my photography education sooner instead of trying to learn everything myself, or as I like to call it, YouTube university. Like in any career, we never stop learning, especially with all the new technology and apps. I have learned to use the huge social platforms to advance in this field. Overall, I believe struggle is part of the path to help push us along to accomplish our dreams.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a local photographer from Houston, TX. I photograph in Houston and the surrounding areas and willing to travel beyond. I specialize in a variety of occasions including family, maternity, seniors, boudoir and birthday sessions. You can say that I am most proud of my growth throughout the years and all the experience I have gained.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Born and raised in this city, Houston will always have a place in my heart. What I love about this city is that through the good or bad, it always supports itself. I am open to traveling to new places and adventures but will always remember home.
