Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam and Savannah Stroder.
Adam was going to school for physical therapy. His school was unable to assist him with financial aid, and he was unsatisfied with his job, so the brainstorming of what made home truly happy began.
Adam and Savannah, his wife, noticed a lot of wood waste being put on the streets for trash pick-up, and thus A.S. Is Designs was born! They committed to only using discarded wood, to reduce waste in the community, and provide some relief to the environment. Adam even helps folks take down fences, and clean areas as a thank you for the materials.
Their love for their business and their community has grown leaps and bounds since their start in 2016, and they are excited for all of the future opportunities that may come their way.
You can find them at a few local markets, and in a couple of boutiques in Texas.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth having is easy. We never had the means to just invest in woodworking equipment. We are mostly overhead free thanks to the help of friends and the great people we have met along the way.
We have had so many donations of tools that may no longer be used, so many leads on wood that could be used, and so much encouragement along the way from friends and customers and fellow vendors. We are forever grateful.
Our toddler is a real hero in all of this, along with our families who travel from far away to watch her almost every weekend the past year and a half.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a reclaimed wood furniture and home decor husband and wife business. We also refurbish and repurpose wood furniture. We only use wood that will be discarded otherwise. We do not buy recycled wood. We even reuse as much hardware as possible. Every piece is made with love and care, and every custom order is thoroughly discussed, planned, and given updates on for every client.
We truly love and are proud of what we create and the customers and friends we work with.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Houston area is an amazing place to start a small business. There is such a push from the North Houston area to promote small businesses. This past Christmas season we were contacted by Nordstrom’s, The Woodlands location, to do a pop-up (our most successful market yet). Bernhardt Winery and Southern Star Brewery are huge supporters of local businesses and have been a great help to us.
We have been met with nothing but excitement for our business and encouragement from the community. The Houston area is the best!
