Meet Aimee Santana of Aimee’s Photography in Humble

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Santana.

Aimee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was a kid, I always saw my dad taking pictures. And when I got the chance, I would take his camera and take my own. Until I turned 10, I got my very own camera. And I haven’t stopped.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t. Beginning of June 2018, I started getting blurry vision and multiple headaches. I could not see. The pain in my eyes was making it hard to sleep. I went in for a normal eye doctor appointment to see if I just needed an update in glasses. But it turned out it was much worse. My eyes were swollen and had blood from the pressure. All were happening behind my eyes. Anyone who saw me would not know this was going on. I was sent to the ER.

June 30th -July 3rd, I was hospitalized. Because they did not understand what was causing it. With multiple tests, MRI, blood work, everything.

I was diagnosed with what is called pseudotumor cerebri or idiopathic intracranial hypertension. “Fake tumor.”

I had too much liquid in my brain (a liquid that is naturally there) causing my brain to push against my eyes. Because of this, it was causing my eyes to swell and bleed. This had even caused me to lose some sight. Normally people who go in for this have lost their sight. Blind. I was not. I had vision in the center. I could see 20/20 with glasses, in what I called a window. But around me was a fog causing pain when I moved my eyes to the right and left.

The doctors did not understand why I still had vision. I had pressure around 140 when it has to be 120s. So they removed liquid from my spine, in hopes to lower the pressure. They gave me pills to make sure it stayed leveled.

I had lost vision in my preview vision, And I’m was going to continue losing sight if I don’t get surgery to stop the process faster. (Doctors words). I did not want surgery. My family, friends, church, Pastors had me in their prayers and prayed for me. And I too was losing faith with the words the Doctors were giving. I know my gift and talents is art. I have some creativity in me. So why take my eyes away! I was very frustrated. And I knew the enemy wanted me down. But I refused. In my lifetime and time again. God always has the last word in my life. And every negative thing Doctors or people have given me. I had risen. No way this was going to bring me down. The day I had the appointment, I missed the doctor. And they saw that I had dropped some pressure in my eyes. They were seeing results. I had multiple check-ups. And the Doctor put on hold the emergency surgery.

August 10th I had gone from a 6(the highest) to a 3 I drop half way. When they expected in a very long time in many months to see results. I was scheduled four months after that appointment.

November 16th, 2018, I was at 0 I was back to normal.

The doctor was in shock. He could not believe that I came from almost blind and in need of an emergency surgery to fully back to normal. My vision still 20/20.

When the next eye doctor checked my eyes, I had to explain my history. She said if she didn’t know that she wouldn’t have known. My prescription dropped from what I was wearing for three years!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aimee’s Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I take Senior pictures, maternity photos, couple’s photo shoot, “Instagram pictures,” Kids smash cakes, Birthday/parties, engagement photos, Family photos, Prom photos, and Weddings

I’m known for my creative angle, editing style, and portraits. I take a lot of candid photos, and those are what clients love the most.

I’m proud when I see the excitement people get once receiving the photos.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Personally, I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God’s grace. And it starts with a vision and with the help of a camera. I capture what I see. The camera doesn’t create the photographer; it’s the person’s vision for the image.
