Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Shahid.
Aisha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started running AAU Junior Olympic Track and Field at the age of five. This is when I got into sports, fitness and health. I continued my track career all the way through high school and even walked on the Track team at Prairie View A&M University but was not able to compete due to an ankle injury from high school. I went on to get my Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology. I continued my education in obtaining my Master’s degree of Education in Physical Education.
After school, I realized I had a passion for helping people as well as a passion for fitness and health and became a personal trainer and wellness coach.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In the fitness industry as a personal trainer, it has its ups and downs. Since 2014 I have only worked two corporate jobs as a trainer. The first job I was laid off due to the company closing all Texas locations. The second job I was fired wrongfully due to me being outspoken about the injustice that I was experiencing. This made me realize that I cannot rely on anyone to secure my livelihood. I have to do it myself! This when I stepped out on faith and went full-time with AK-47 Fitness and Wellness.
Another challenge is that the fitness industry is oversaturated with the same type of training. Either the trainers are helping the client loss weight or gain weight and muscle mass. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of trainers have great and unique training styles to execute these goals but it is still the same.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
AK-47 Fitness and Wellness is my personal training company where I provided the services of: Weight Loss, Muscle Gain, Seniors over 50 years old, Pregnant Women, Injury Prevention/Rehab, Group Training, Nutrition, Meditation, Mental Health classes, Yoga and Youth Athletics.
As I said before, when it comes to trainers in the Fitness Industry it is oversaturated with the same type of training and this is how I found my calling in training the Seniors 50 and older as well as pregnant women. I realize nobody is quick to their aide in the fitness game and It seems as though they are the lost and forgotten when it comes to fitness but they are actually the most important people and definitely have a place in the gym and fitness. I realized this set me apart from other personal trainers.
My goal is to build all of my clients up physically, mentally and emotionally. To help them connect with their mind, body and spirit. Lastly, to give them the tools to become their own personal trainer of their own life because I will not be with them forever unfortunately.
I vend African apparel and health and beauty products. I own a theatre production company called Art Motion Soul.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a fun bubbly kid. I liked to have a good time and I loved to interact with other people…With me being the youngest of six kids and four of them are boys, I loved to compete also!
I have always been a kind and caring person.
